Which bass would you get signed?

+1. I've never understood the whole hero-worship thing. They're just people, doing a job that involves being a public figure.

But if you must get a signature, why does it make sense to have your hero sign an instrument that has nothing whatsoever to do with them? I could see a bass that the guy actually used getting signed, or possibly a "signature model" bass (e.g. Modulus Flea signed by Flea), but your own bass?

The Bongos signed by BP and Dudley make sense because they're the guys behind the design. Would you have BP sign your Squier?

true that, but, asking why get autographs? is like asking why look at Pamela Anderson?...ummm....maybe the question should be why not? hehehehehe

I dig the autograph thang, and besides,Lee Sklar's bass looks awesome with it's autographs

Larry Ireland, the guitar player in Ray Duke's band the Sunkats, has a strat that has the finish sanded off of it. It has numerous signatures from famous guitar players on it.

He doesn't hang it on a wall either. He plays it regularly.

Neither. My question about autographs (not just on basses) is "why bother?"

I can See Someone Like Big Poppa and or Dudley Signing something because their heros to me from just what they have done too the Bass World.

Now as far as Bass hero's go, 2 things here.
#1 I think it sucks when someone Germs and signature from Some Bass God to
rush it home for a ebay sale.
#2 Most bass God's hate too be Germed for an autograph so I respect their
Privacy.

At one time I had the goal of getting my entire collection of Bass Player Magazines autographed by the cover artist and do have my Premiere Issue Autographed by Billy Sheehan (personal friend for 30 years now) but that's where I stopped.

I didn't feel like asking Michael Manring and Marcus Miller to get writer's cramp.

I really should've jumped all over that offer when it was available. FIVE. Only FIVE in the world. Jeez, that's freakin' awesome. If only I (1) had money and (2) knew how amazing Bongos were back then.

As for autographs, the only thing I've ever really had autographed were CDs/DVDs by my favorite artists after I catch them after a show or something. That doesn't bother me in the slightest. It's not really hero worship, just somewhat of a cool add-on to what's hopefully an already-cool CD. I don't think I'd ever have a bass signed, though, unless it was the artist signing his own signature bass. That'd be neat, but I doubt I'd ever drag a bass to a concert.

Autographs....I don't have many, but there is a photo I took in the late 70s that Todd Rundgren used in one of his tour programs, so I had him sign an original print for me.

Hangs on the studio wall.

The drummer/singer/songwriter/genius guy from Jellyfish, Andy Sturmer, signed my copy of "Spilt Milk" over dinner one night.

Somewhere on the other desk are the two I got at the Open House, Luke ("Bove! My man!" it says) and Tony Levin.

I think that's about it, unless we count envelopes from Steve Barr.
