Which bongo pickup combo should I get?

I've decided I need a bongo in my life. I've got a hh SR5, so I'm leaning towards a hs bongo. Is the single coil hum canceling when solo'd?

Single coil pickup built in the HS Bongo got no hum canceling coil, ...it got separate electronic preamp circuit with hum canceling unit!

I wouldn't expect the single coils to be hum free in every situation though. It's more correct to say that the hum is significantly reduced.

Weight might play a factor. I've seen the 6's range anywhere from 9.5 lbs to 11 lbs whereas I've seen the 5's range from 8.5 lbs to 10 lbs. I know for some a pound makes a difference.

I personally would love a Bongo 6, but ultimately you have to ask yourself what you want to achieve with the instrument you plan to purchase. Is it worth a wider neck and an extra pound in weight?

My SR5 weighs almost 11 lbs. weight isn't a huge issue.

I gotta think the 5 vs 6 argument comes down to the type of music you play, and with whom. Are you really needing to cover ground that a guitar normally covers for the upper registers?

I don't really need to. I've always wanted a 6 sting, but definitely don't need it.

I'd go HS, but I may be slightly bias in that opinion, since I own two HS's . HH is no slouch either, I just like that single coil at the neck a tad better. Still going to get a 6 or 5 HH in the stable eventually, but for now I'm perfectly happy with my HS. I don't even think my band would notice the difference in tone from HS to HH.

I'd say the HH is the most common, followed by the HS then the H.

They are all their own beasts!

I would definitely get a HH or HS, that way you get the 4 band EQ. I prefer the HH, it's a monster.

I have a 5 HS. I also have a 5 HH. Personally, given the choice, I would pick a 5 HHP.

I personally don't find enough difference between the S and the H to bother. The HH works fine for me. I don't have a P, but I have tried one, and can tell you can easily dial in some air (for lack of a better term) when needed.

I have 4's, 5's, and have no desire for a 6. I just can't see needing one.

It's too easy to think of that as a $275 upcharge
applied to a single PU bass, but it's a bit less in
real terms. Why ? Cuz a piezo optioned MM bass
is NOT a single PU bass. Therefor compare value
to a dual PU nonpiezo version, and you'll find it's
more like about $200.

Is piezo worth $200 difference vs a second mag
PU ? Not if you play heavy metal, but for various
more sane genres, yup, it is. Plus, that $200 is
really not quite $200 [here we go again .... ]. If
you could add a PU fader/balancer to a dual mag
PU Ray or Sterling, would you gladly pay $35 +/-
for such a mod ? Answer "Yes" to that and $200
has shrunk to $165 ... cuz a Ray or Sterling with
piezo is the ONLY version of those basses with a
PU fader/balancer

So, is the piezo option worth $165 [+/-] ? Well,
not if you play heavy metal, etc, but otherwise
it's a freaking humongemous bargain.

BTW, altho you wouldn't gain a PU fader with a
Boingo piezo, if your idea of Boingovana is a 1H,
you do gain a 4-band EQ. 1H Boingos WITHOUT
piezos have a 3-band EQ but with piezos added
you also get the 4-band EQ And acoarst the
coolest thing about Boingos is that you can even
get a triple play version: dual mag PU plus piezo.
You just can't get any cooler than that. It's like
the iceberg on the dining room table.

piezo voice. It's a full spectrum system equal in
power to the mag PU. I bias my PU balancer to
