I've decided I need a bongo in my life. I've got a hh SR5, so I'm leaning towards a hs bongo. Is the single coil hum canceling when solo'd?
Absolutely a HS, more rare, easier to slap & better resale value
If you get a 5HS & dont like it, I'll trade you my silver 5HH ha ha !
I gotta think the 5 vs 6 argument comes down to the type of music you play, and with whom. Are you really needing to cover ground that a guitar normally covers for the upper registers?
How much extra is the piezo option?
Well, at that point I expected you to continue the math until we get cash back choosing the piezo.Around $275 IIRC.
Full disclosure: I am verrrrrrrrrry biased toward
piezos. In fact, in answer to the inevitable next
question that always arises: Yes you can solo the
piezo voice. It's a full spectrum system equal in
power to the mag PU. I bias my PU balancer to
85 to 100% piezo on the Rays and Sterlings and
60 to 75% piezo on the Boingo 1Hp. YMMV.
...
It's too easy to think of that as a $275 upcharge
applied to a single PU bass, but it's a bit less in
real terms. Why ? Cuz a piezo optioned MM bass
is NOT a single PU bass. Therefor compare value
to a dual PU nonpiezo version, and you'll find it's
more like about $200.
...
Plus, that $200 is
really not quite $200 [here we go again .... ]. If
you could add a PU fader/balancer to a dual mag
PU Ray or Sterling, would you gladly pay $35 +/-
for such a mod ? Answer "Yes" to that and $200
has shrunk to $165 ...
