Which Bongo?

Hi guys
Im helping johans to ask u guys. Hes wondering which bongo 5 should he get, Lava Pearl or Desert Gold? HS or HH?
any suggestion is welcome, all input is appreciated

I think the Desert Gold is a much more striking color.

I'd also suggest the HH first - big cojones on that configuration. The HS is nice to add later when you're ready for something more subtle.

In terms of spacing for slap, the HS and the HH are no different. The single coil pup on the HS is in the same position as the top-half of the neck humbucker on the HH Bongo.

"Cojones" are also know as "huevos" and both mean....your matched set.

Spelling lesson for gringos: DO NOT SPELL IT "CAJONES". Those are entirely different things. In fact, they are drawers, as in a desk or a dresser.

what's your normal eq setting normally?

Well, first, I'm abnormal, so there is that, but what I normally say is "I turn the knobs until it sounds good, and then I stop turning the knobs."

This is my way of saying "Look, I don't know what kind of strings you use, what your technique is like, what amp or cabinets you use and what the room acoustics are like."

Generally, though, I turn the treble way down, sometimes off, leave the bass flat (unless using only the bridge pickup, in which case I slide it up some) and fiddle with the mids until it sounds angry.

What case did u use for ur bongos? I believe it doesnt come with the hardcase, did they send it by jus bass put it in the box?

I bought the G&G case (wasted 100 bucks) from Bass Central.

Not their fault the case sucks. It will, however, protect the bass, so it's probably better to go ahead and spend the money.

She had a pair of double buckers that just wouldn't quit.

Make up your own, but I tell you, if I had NO BASS AT ALL in my house and were looking to spend some money and buy one, I'd buy the Bongo first.

Which is not to say I don't like Stingrays, as you may have noticed.

I just had a friend of mine try my Bongo 5 H/SC and he said he's never heard so many tone variations on a bass. Neither have I. This guy has played professionally for a lot of years using the likes of Alembic, Ken Smith, StingRay, etc......
Never played a dual bucker but it sounds like they're great too. Not sure you can go wrong with any config.
