Which Classic?

So i went to the guitar center to play on a classic sterling the other day. The only problem was they didnt have any. All they had were stingrays. Now i have played on a classic sterling before but not a stingray. So this was a first and boy was it great. I loved the tone that beast had. I own a sterling HS now but want a classic, but after playing both im not sure what to get. Im thinking maybe a stingray to give me a different sound but i love the sterling neck a lot. So what do you guys think? Should i get a classic sterling or try something new and go with a classic stingray.

I am going to sit down with both of them and play through my amp before i buy but i still wouldnt mind others opinions.

But isnt the Classic neck more in line with the Sterling? ... Doesnt feel anywhere near as chunky to me as past Rays Ive played.

Also there are specifics to the Classic...ie 2 band pre etc that OP may be interested in..

Can anyone tell me what is the major difference in sound between the Sabre 1 H and the Sterling HS or HH. I'm thinking of getting another Sterling tomorrow- an HH. I already have an HS. I don't need two basses that sound the same so I might go with a Sabre instead on my next purchase . Any sound thoughts? Thanks

That's what the SLO neck is, a Sterling neck on a Stingray body and electronics.

I understand...but the neck on the new classic series is smaller than the typical Rays...from what Ive been told its similar to a Sterling... So its up to the OP...if he wants the 2 band option or a 3 band...finished neck or unfinished neck etc.

Two things:

The Classic Ray isn't available with SLO option
The necks of both Classic and regular Rays are the same size but the latter has a slightly flatter f/b.

My Classic SR4 neck is actually bigger/deeper than my standard Rays.
The SLO is the best choice for the OP, a roasted 2EQ SR4.

Trust me, I own 2 Classics and the necks are not smaller; you might prefer the vintage 7.5" radius (more fret board curvature) on the Classics . . .

The classic Sterling is going to be my choice. In coral red before it's discontinued.

The SLO idea is great but i really want a classic. So im sure my decision will come when i sit down with both of them next time i make a trip to the perfect bass. Color will be hard to pick though. I sure wish they would put LPB with maple out though.

Buy another color with a maple neck and switch the necks. You would have a one of a kind.
