Hi guys,

I'm curious.........

Is it just me that prefers the feel, play and tone of the standard JP to the BFR version???

I played both a couple years ago when was looking at buying one and the weight of the BFR put me off as it didn't feel as balanced, and the tone was darker and more mid heavy, whereas the standard model seemed to have more clarity and the paint job being on the back of the body and the plain birdseye maple neck as opposed to a painted one sold it to me.

Don't get me wrong though, the BFRs are sweeet! and I would love a JP7 in bahama blue or Amethyst purple....or black burst....!!! Shame I cant have the standard model with that finish!!!!!

Let me know what you all think!!!

I would like to try a JPX, but until that day, the originals take the proverbial cake, for now. The unfinished neck does feel better, I don't care what other people say.

Whils't i love my original JP, i much prefer the tone of the BFR. I cant really describe it very well, but it's just better imho. Now the looks of the original JP i think are better. More chunky and sculpted.

While I do not use a JP model any longer and had both standard and BFR. preferred the standard, same with the Luke, had a couple BFR models and just prefer the standar for feel and tone, but they are all killer just each indivduals preference:)

JP6 BFR! I own both. Maybe it's just my specimen, but my BFR is lighter and more resonant. I also prefer the body shape (horn in particular) of the BFR; I like the balance better. I was initially skeptical about the finished neck, but it is a non-issue. In fact I prefer the BFR's finished neck. Can't go wrong with either, though. Both are outstanding.

I have yet to play a JPX. It's next on my list but will have to wait a while.

They both play the same.
The BFR is darker sounding with a little more string pop (tone block?). A little more tonal options with the push/pull. Possibly a little more refined sounding.
The Std has a more aggressive sound. More mid punch.

Its literally different strokes for different folks.

I honestly feel that the BFR and the Standard are just two entirely different instruments.

While we can examine each individual component which are different between the two, what truly matters is that these differences as a sum to a whole create an entirely different package.

Guitar tone, as a result of string vibrations being picked up and resonated by the wood(s) of the guitar is a process where each differential can create for significant changes in the entire process of the tone.

I've only owned the standard, but have played a TON of BFRs. It's hard for me to put the differences down in one phrase. They feel and play very differently IMO.

I wouldn't say which one is more preferable over the other, but if I could have both, I would definitely use them each to pursue different sounds. They would be used in that manner, not in one being superior to the other, whether its an opinion or not. Just different.

Haven't tried the JPX, but I prefer the standard JP over the BFR. Somehow that guitar, fully basswood, has a bigger and looser tone than the BFR, which is more compressed and tighter. It's a personal preference, since some like that tighter tone for Metal. But the JP6 standard to me fully loaded is just pure sex. So is the JP7. If all goes well, I will hopefully be able to order my long awaited JP7MD fully loaded soon!!!

But apparently, I'm not the only one who prefers the standard... Looky here!
