If you have the cash to spend I say BFR Axis or BFR Axis super sport. The tone block get's it in the direction of the Les Paul in terms of warmth and the 5 way switch gives from strat like flexable tones.

Ha dwells I think you're trying to tell me something...luke BFR is it? lol! I've got the steve lukather Emgs on my jackson and kind of want something different to active pickups. Thanks TonyEVH5150 and Mikey that sounds good. The axis is one of the slickest looking guitars out there. It can be hard to tell from youtube clips how it sounds. What was the first album that EVH started using the axis on?

I believe the first VH album where Eddie used the EBMM EVH was on F.U.C.K.

the 20th Silhouette with the rosewood fingerboard should do the trick. Although the new BFR Axis should also be worth investigating. Good luck with your quest :)

+1 on the 20th

Similar wood combo to the JP BFR with the mahogany tone block and maple cap, but you've got standard 3 way switching and the humbuckers are PAF style - more in the LP style but with a virtual PAF in the Neck and a Virtual Hot PAF in the Bridge to beef up the gain a bit. Plus dmullen has one for sale with a trem at a good price,

Other than that, they are no longer made. So act fast and act now :)

What he said!

Here is my view,

Either and Axis, Axis Super Sport or a 20th Silo. All killer guitars. If i had the money I would go for a Koa axis (if you can fid one) or a 20th silo.

Welcome, by the way!!

I'm looking for something that sounds 'Les Paulish' but with more bite in the bridge for bigger distortion and a trem. It doesn't necessarily have to be a floyd rose but something that'll move nicely and stay in tune. I've got an eric johnson strat and a Les Paul Standard. I want a cross between the strat and the les paul but that's capable of big distortion sounds.

I'd say the Axis is more like it... The only difference is you can't split the coils because of the single tone knob (I think). But having said that, the JP BFR is also pretty much close.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the suggestions I guess ultimately it'll depend on which I like best when I actually get my hands on them. It's looking like it'll be between the Axis and the JP. This is a really great forum thanks again. Phil.

Having said that, I've recently replaced my humbuckers in my 20th with Tonerider Classic Alnico 4 low output pups... In a blind test, I now CANNOT tell the difference between that an a LP standard!!!

Hey Phil.

I have not tried the Suhr PUs but I will look into it. Aldrich's tone on the latest Whitesnake record is thick. Who knew they'd put out such a rocking album?
