Im a bass player, but, thinking for one of my guitar players who will eventually be in the market for a new guitar, of course i wanna steer him towards EBMM.

We play experimental, funky, rock music. This guitar would be for the rhythm guitar player, whose parts are genreally experimental type chord transitions. At The Drive-In is a good band for comparison, Dredg too if you know em. Ideal tone would be something with really good clarity and definition when overdriven, something that isnt too metal sounding, and has that good alternative rock tone.

I would recommend any of the following and in no particular order Silo, Axis Super Sport, Morse or a Luke. Any of these will cover those requirements easily. The Axis or the Morse is what I use for that same style.

I didn't mention the Albert Lee because you'd probably want Humbuckers for the rock stuff. But you could easily use the AL for that stuff.

The quality is as good as you'd expect from EB, you just don't get the select woods on the higher priced models. Plus a few other things.

Thing is, this guy would look awfully funny with an Al, heh, hes not a small guy and he would dwarf it in size.

Realistically, i think the SUB would be a good choice, one with the 2 humbuckers, and the black pg bc the diamondplate looks silly. This would be more affordable for him.

Sound ok?

people keep telling me the garbage I play is "experimental" and my main MM is a natural axis SS hardtail with a bill lawarence l-500 in the bridge. I started with a stock model identical to it that I kept the stock PU in the bridge... for a twin hum configuration the 5 way switch renders a lot of different tones - and the tone knob actually works, so I can use it in nearly any situation. but if the sub1 is in his $ range, you cant go wrong with it. I failed at trying to turn mine into a morse before I sold it, but the first warranty voiding modification I made was to have a new pickguard made with a 5 way and a coil tap for the neck puckup only... weird. but useful and no complaints whatsoever. and if he's really aiming high for warranty termination: sand the finish off the neck... it was really nice.

My band plays rock/funk stuff aswell. I use my Axis SS with MM90's most of the time. It has good clarity for the funk stuff, and with the right effects-pedals, it can go very deep for the rock stuff. It's ideal for my style of playing.
