im debating on which guitar to get the jp6 or the jp6 bfr!

first of all this is all in singaporean price.

JP6
mystic dream finish
piezo pickups
matching headstock
jp custom shield inlays
hard case
$3,650 ( SORRY for the price mix up , my first supplier offered 4.4 for a fully loaded jp6, bgw offered 3.654 ) phew

JP6 BFR
emerald green / ruby burst flame
piezo pickups
$4,750.00

i know the jp6 BFR is a much better guitar in terms of tone , but i cant tell you how much i loooooove the jp6's body shape and its mystic dream finish. But one thing that draws me closer to the BFR rather than the jp6 is the mahogany tone block and alder body wood on the BFR compared to the "sterile" sounding basswood on the JP6.

so i need an experienced opinion on which would be the better contender and an in depth analysis on the tone of each guitar.

so based on your opinions , which one would you get and which would you recommend me to get?

For me there's just something about the regular JP6. Focussed sound where the BFR has more of a Les Paul "growl" in the lower mids. While the EBMM finished neck is pretty good I still prefer the the sound and feel of the oil and wax finish maple neck. Ergonomics are excellent on both. And the MD finish remains something really special. I'ld go for the JP6, but in the end there is only personal taste. I can totally understand the BFR-lovers as well.

Jp6 :). If you have to consider resale value the BFR, but purely about the guitar as a player I'ld hit that MD. I'm sure there are as any or more that would say BFR though.

Hi Eugene, I'm also contemplating on getting a JP6. But I don't have as much cash as you! By the way, S'porean here too!

So EBMM costs hell lots. I've got some quotes, both from Sinamex and BGW. I'm totally not looking for the BFR because its way above my budget. I'm digging the JP6 body as well! I'm going for all the options except for the custom inlays.

But my opinion in your situation, I would fork out the SGD300 more. I really like the BFR too, with the quilted maple. Without a doubt that Jp6 is still one flawless guitar, I would still go for the BFR.

It's true about what you said about the wood, I think it plays a lot in terms of tone wise. I hope this post at least help a little! :D All the best in your decisions! I'll be getting one too!

Only you can make the decision as you are going to get a bunch of mixed replies that will probably be close to split. As far as the issue with tone woods you will get a lot of different responces on that subject too, Basswood is dumped on quite often when compared to other tone woods yet for some reason is the tone wood of choice for most of the worlds top high octane players like JP,EVH, Satch and Vai who can have there guitars made from any wood yet prefer Basswood as I believe it is a winning combo with high output pups. My personal preference would be Mahagony as I like that old school fat tone it produces, but I own many different guitars of all types of body woods Basswood, Basswood with a Maple cap, Alder, Ash and Poplar guitars which all sound great. I also have full trust in EB guitars and since two of the greats mentioned had/have there guitars made by them I know that is exactly what the artist is using, and they are not having one thing made for them while the public is getting something different. If I were in your shoes and looking how close the guitars are pricewise I doubt I could resist the BFR.

Get both :) If you have to choose, take BFR. S$4400 is around 3500 USD, if i'm not mistaken. For regular JP6 this is just too high a price (and i thought we here in Ukraine have craziest prices...). 3800$ for BFR sound much more reasonable.

These are prices for international customers. The prices are DEFINITELY NOT the same. I don't mean to arm chair mod by any means, but I thought we're not supposed to post brand new prices?

I'm just saying, that being on the Music Man hunt in both the states and here in korea, the prices are drastically different. So I think not posting prices helps to prevent confusion regarding that.

As for the OP, I LOVE the standard JP6. The basswood is just such an open and resonant wood. I lvoed them with the D Sonic, and I just adore them with the CL/LF.

Choose with your ears my friend!

let me tell you, i own three regular JPs and i was stuck on EBMM guitars due to this awesome unfinished necks....and that´s why i was thinking, that i would never buy a BFR JP....but never say never...got a great deal on my blackburst JP-BFR and i love it!
if i had to choose - like you do - i would go for the BFR! it´s more a "rocker" as the regular one.
the tone with the BFR is much richer and deeper and more "woody" as with the JP.
but don´t get me wrong, the regular is still a great guitar, but from to days point of few: BFR!

Yea man! BGW offers good prices, but I wonder what could cause this price difference... Maybe we should not discuss prices!
