HI EB forum!

I’m a regular EB player, and ive been registered on here for a few years now.

I have a few questions re: what cabs you guys use with your lightweight amps.

I currently use Orange AD200b Mk3/cabs, Aguilar Cabs (DB Series) and a Markbass Littlemark 3. The Orange gear is fantastic for all out rock n roll, and the Aguilar cabs with any head really shine.

I am looking to get a 2 x 112 setup (or similar) for my Markbass head which I’ve just bought. I already have large heavy cabs…and yes they sound awesome, but I want something modular/small/light if possible. I’ve just joined a covers band just to make a little money and get some experience so I need a smaller rig.

I have a few options…

I was thinking of two Aguilar DB112s….even though I already own Aguilar DB cabs with 12” speakers, the 112s are quite impressive.

I also thought about Markbass cabs, but they don’t seem to have the following that the amps do. This might be completely wrong. I am in the UK so we have different trends over here.

I was also looking into Epifani, but I was a little shocked to see they had changed the weight and started to make them elsewhere with hardly any info on their site.

I don’t think Schroeder cabs are right for me….I want a nice warm round yet clear and punchy bass tone.

I looked into Bergantino..its a shame more dealers don’t stock these. But the prices we pay here in the UK are vastly increased from the prices in the USA.

What would you all suggest?

Thanks

cabinets with neodymium magnets would be light in weight and to my ears they seem to have a hifi like bandwidth together with a warm sound.
i have tried markbass traveller 151 and the neo212 combo from gk. the 151 was insanely light and packed plenty of punch. luckily there is an l-pad on the piezo tweeter so you can tweek to your liking.
the neo212 sounds awesome, esp on my fretless sr4.
it has plenty of membrane area so it moves alot of air too.
too bad the rb700 is so heavy compared to the digital psu amps or i would have bought it :)

My ampeg 2-12 portabass cabinet sound amazing for its size. It even has a built on dolly to make it easy to move I use a markbass f1 and it matches up very well. I have a spare cabinet for sale if I don't find another used f1. If I find one it will be a sweet stereo rig.

Ul2-112

I have a used one, presumably made in the US

Given a choice, I'd buy US vs elsewhere. However, if you don't care about that I haven't heard reports that the tone suffered.

In any case, it is a fantastic cabinet. I use it with a Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0 that is also fantastic.

I've owned a lot of gear but this is definitely the best I've had.

I've owned the Avatar SB112 (non neo version) and the Epifani Ul2-112 runs circles around it in terms of tone, clarity, low-end, weight and volume.

I tried Markbass a 112 markbass cab and felt it was a little too "barky" if you know what I mean. I found the Epi to sound better than the Aggie DB112. It just sounded more "open" to my ears.

My lightweight modular rig is a Markbass LMII with 1 or 2 SWR Goliath Jr 210 cabs. The cabs weigh 45lbs, which is less than the equivalent front ported Markbass cab (49.8lb)

I use two Phil Jones 4b cabinets with a Genz-Benz Shuttle 6.0 for gigs with FOH. Bose L1 system with 4 subwoofers on gigs without FOH, Phil Jones Suitcase for rehearsals and Phil Jones Flightcase for at home practice and with my EUB. Average size of the speakers I play through is about 4.75". All are lightweight and sound great from 6 string to 4 string.

Try EBS they are stunning, they do have a bit of rep for being a "Slapper" amp, but they go to 11 (honest!) I play Rock and I use pick and fingers and these cabs (I have EBS amp head to) are superb, great clarity, well built, but damn light! Draw back, pretty expensive, but well worth checking out.
