Firstly thanks everyone, and particularly Jack, for some very informed comments. I have trolled other boards before buying an axe (e.g. before I bought my Larivee) and this board and its members are right up there with the best.

I wanted to play an Axis Sport mid week but was sick and couldnt travel so that didnt happen. I also missed out on a sweet Axis Super Sport w Pieze Tobacco Burst in Japan (used) which sold the same morning it was listed. I am in Tokyo on Monday so will have a look around anyway.

I know requiring a tone knob is limiting my choice and I did consider modifying an axis but I worry about getting the job done here in Hong Kong and also the dent it may make in re-sale value. I definitely do not want a floyd so that makes it somewhat easier. Is the tone knob (either thru a double pot or a second pot an easy mod ??)

I played the reflex again the other day and I did like it. I'm getting an itchy trigger finger ...

I do like the look of the silo prob best of all (spec only as I'm a 22 fret man) but it does seem to be more for the Strat + crowd and although I play U2 etc I only want 1 guitar for a gig and want beefier HB tones. There is a sweet one on this forum for sale at the moment though ...

I'm currently watching this for sale section, ebay and j-guitars (japan used). I will probably be in Manhatten NY mid next month so I could check out Guitar Center there (their selection is not great though). I would prefer to buy used to save some $$ and let me buy another axe as well or some other piece of essential (!) gear.

Thanks very much

G

Good luck my friend..., I love my Reflex, I love my Axis SS....and I love my 4 Axis Tributes, and I love my Trans Orange Axis too....I also play in a Rock cover band and fill in for a few other projects.....Classic Rock, oldies, standards..etc.....I am confident with taking out any of these guitars.., however, I usually bring out two guitars if they have the floyd ........Sometimes, If I just bring out one guitar it will either be the Axis SS or the Reflex...25 Anniversary in case I pop a string....But, I don't miss the tone knob when I use the Axis.....The volume knobs does wonders when you cut it back, and switch between the pick ups........Like Kev..said......When in doubt...Get a few! :D:D

25th for aesthetics and tonal versatility. If you need a trem, the vintage trem does a great job(not a floyd, but will suffice). Just my 2 cents.

I have 6 guitars, 5 models.

Everyone of them is killer (the only one I didn't really loved was the JP...I preffer "beefier" necks). I dont play professionaly, nor even have a gig. I just love having the chance to grab whichever axe I like.

If you can go and try the guitars, I'd recomend to have an Open mind. I went to GC being almost sure I'd leave with an Axis, but I walked away with a Silho Special. Never thought of it as an option, but it blew my mind, and I'm grateful I gave myself the chance to play and try...

Every MM guitar is amazing, but the most important factor while choosing the axe is the one nobody will be able to help you with: YOUR PERSONAL CHOICE.

Be open to surprises!

Well I took a bit of everyones advice and now have a Reflex and a ASS winging their way to me. Once I get them it will be cool to see which one comes out victorious !

Thanks everyone for your help. I'll post some pics when they arrive

Good decision. You`ll be wondering how different these two guitars are although they both got humbuckers and a 5-way-switch. That was my experience a few weeks ago.

Thanks everyone for all your help.

I couldn't decide on which one to get so i got 2 to try out/compare.

Both guitars required a truss rod adjustment (first time for me) when they arrived probably due to changes in temp during shipping. The fretboards had no relief at all so I gave them a little.

I love the look of the ASS but in my opinion so far the Reflex feels nicer. I am planning on replacing the Reflex knobs with silver ones and the p/u rings with black surrounds.

First gig in 1 week. Which one to take .....

Thanks again

Both are beautiful guitars. I also would replace the parts on the Reflex. For me I would choose the Reflex, I think it´s more versatile.
