I'd go with the flats on the LE. The 30th sounds too good with rounds.
+1!
I have the 5er 20th anniversary and I love the sound and tone that I get out of this bass.:D It's funny you're asking this question, as I have the 5er of the 2007 LE and was thinking of putting flats on her for the exact same reason! It's almost as if you were reading my mind...

Well, in my parts of the darker woods, many of those who are actually able to recognize a StingRay have the knee jerk reaction of "ah, you play funnk, cool slap machine".

But I know better :D

hey Baird I hope you don't mind me jumping on your thread...I'm planning on putting Group II flats on my SR5 H shortly, but was wondering if anyone can report on how the neck pickup of an SR5 HH responds to flats. I may contemplate buying one and using that as my 'flats' bass. Besides two 'balls are always better than one!!

Hijack away! No problem....

I put the flats on my 2007 LE, kept rounds on my 30th and it looks like I will be trading in my Sterling in for a SR5. I am set.

put flats on a bongo. i guarantee you will love it!!! ;)

the hh is so flexible soundwise. just put flats on it and you can pritty much do anything.. with a lil eq tweak you can be slap happy on it as well, a lil twist on the pickup selector, a lil eq tweak and you smoke good ole mr jamerson.. i could go on for days ramblin bout this.. you should try it if you get a chance! :D

im debating putting flats on my buttercream SR 4, i want to keep rounds on my SR 5 (my SR 5 is my main slapping bass). after reading this thread, from what i understand, with flats i can get a somewhat slaphappy tone (i am a slapaholic), while also being able to achieve a melo jazzy jacoesque tone aswell? also im thinking about going with group 3 to keep the string gauges the same (good idea?).

sorry for hijack!!!! dont hurt me....(ok...maybe just a lil, but nothing too painful please)
