Hello,

So recently I have bought a pair of Dimarzio's Liquifire and Crunch Lab for my originally equipped John Petrucci JP6 which i originally purchased in 2006.

It came with Steve's Special and Air Norton which I considered as good sounding until I've heard these when John moved to them as a natural progress so there goes my question to people who done the pickup swap Is it ok to just swap the pickups as they are or is it worthwhile to install push-pull tone knob for more options?
I'm generally curious if the guitar after this mod stays quiet and electronically stable?

I appreciate any input :)

Thanks

Adrian

I honestly think the Liquifire and the Crunch Lab are amazing; it'd be worth it to put them in for sure, and I mean, if you play stuff which calls for a lighter/thinner/single coil like tone, then maybe install a push pull when you put the new pups in.

It should be pretty stable if its done by someone who knows what they're doing; if I were you I'd probably just put the pickups in and leave the push/pull, as I dont really like the sound of single coils/thinner sounds.

Actually, the middle postion on the standard JP6 is a split sound. These are just the inner coils in parallel, as far as I know. The BFR versions have a push pull tone knob for the combination of both full humbuckers or the split sound in the middle position.
However this shows that the mod can be done...
Cheers,
Mikey

Thanks for reply guys. I like the middle position a lot and was wondering if the push pull gives any more of strat sounding options?

Nope, it is just the middle position in which the coils can be split. You can't split the neck or bridge bucker on teir own.
Go to: John Petrucci
and click on "Diagrams and Schematics" on the right. Lots of information in these drawings about the standard- and the BFR-versions of the JP.

So my pickups were installed on Saturday and I've noticed huge improvement as well as my band mate.
Only thing that makes me wonder is that air norton is shallow by few millimetres that liquifire ?

I'm doing push pull mod this weekend :).
