Which Pick?

Out of all the picks created (Material-Wise) which material would be best for playing Rock and metal for a guitar and bass and which would be good for playing jazz?

Dunlop Jazz III's are my favourites, can play nearly anything with them. not sure what theyre made out of though...

Ultex Jazz III, I've just got some of these. I have used red and black ones for a long time, I think the reds give a bit more attack.

Celluloid was my preferred choice for a long time, for almost any music style. Now I'm loving Clayton's Ultem (which should be the same, if not very similar to Dunlop's Ultex). It's a fantastic material and sound good in any context. I'm using the same picks right now for both guitar and mandolin.

+1 on the Ultex, these are great picks.

the rare occasion i use a pick...........it's a Jim Dunlop .88mm

Jazz III's but the only problem im having ,embarasing as it may be, is that well... i have a slippage problem with these things due to the fact that I perfer to play in hi-temp conditions but the thickness and size are perfect and great for well just about anything if anyone has any tips on how to make these things more abrasive it would be much appreciated.

yeah i know what you mean mate.. my jazz3's slip out alot (gets quite hot and very humid here in Queensland, Australia).. not sure how to remedy it though..

I went through a bunch of picks early on. I started with a Fender thin because I thought that ultra-thin pick would make me faster. Over the years, I've tried everything from paper thin to thick enough to probably stop a bullet. For the past 10 or 12 years, I've pretty much exclusively used the Dunlop Tortex .60 mm. It gives me good attack, but still has just a little flexibility. I've never had any problems with slipping either. I occasionally try a different pick, but I've never found one that feels better to me.

i know! i was playing this morning with a red jazz III and it slipped out numerous times! but to me the reds 'sound' better for what i play. but still love the blacks.

Dunlop Tortex 1.14mm for me, although I find that they wear out pretty quickly.

I like the Dunlop Jazz III picks for most everything. I prefer Fender Medium picks for acoustic strumming (either on my EBMM JP7 w/piezo or actual acoustics).

I use Clayton acetal picks in 1 mm. I find them to be pretty good for grip. I had some printed up with my business name...to use as "business cards"!

Ernie Ball makes picks as well

Any idea where I can get these in Melbourne (ideally South Eastern suburbs)? The only Ernie Ball products in my local shops are strings. (Got to buy everything else online or from OS.)
