I'm saving up for a stingray. Now that you can get a single coil or humbucker in the neck, i'm not sure which to get. I've played both and liked both equally. Any suggestions?

I would say it depends on the sort of music you like and the sound you want to get out of the bass.

However, as far as I know, if you get a HS SR, you can solo the humbucker, so you still retain the sound of that on it's own. And plus you've got the added flexibility of the SC! Out of H and HS I'd say to go for HS, but the guys will be along to advise shortly

If it is possible, play both and pick the one that sings to you.

I'm a double bucker kinda guy but I see an HS in my future.

yup, the only solution is to have one of each

if you have any attachment to fender jazz basses, you might want a single coil in the neck (made famous on the jazz way back in the 1760's).

That's comparing the SR4 HH to the SR4 single H.

I'm totally a Sterling guy... but there's really something magic about the SR4 HH. I love that thing... I like it more than the Sterling HH.

If i had to come up with a stack rank of the basses i own i THINK it would go like this...

Sterling HS
SR4 HH
Sterling single H tied w/ Sterling HH
SR4 single H

but I've never played an HS SR4... nor do I have any real experience with a Bongo so I really can't comment on those. but in the end its all preference.

Thanks for that :) I was going to ask where it ranked compared to your Sterlings but you beat me to it! :D Good to know the Sterling HS comes highly recommended (next planned Sterling config for me)
