Question... which wireless should I fork out my hard earned money on. I've had very good luck w/ AT 600 freeway series stuff believe it or not but I've also found a killer deal on a new Sennheiser EW-172 (although its still nearly twice the price). SO should I go for the tried-and-true approach or fork some $ for a trip into Sennheiser territory???

I've used a Samson Airline UHF for 3 years with no probs at all. The one piece bug sized transmitter that plugs into your output jack (no cord or beltpack to worry about) takes a single AAA that lasts 12 hours or more. They make a rackmount version of the receiver as well as a flimsy but compact effect pedal sized version. I've never noticed any tone change or coloration with this unit, and it's been 100% reliable, in venues that have all kinds of RF interference.

Many people have had good luck w/ those set-ups, but I used to have one back in the day and it gave me all kinds of trouble. I'm sure they've come a long way since they first came out, but I hold a strict "one strike and you're out" policy on my equipment :)

I've used a Sennheisser EW172 system for the past 6 months with no problems at all. I change the battery in the Tx regularly, like every other gig and always carry a spare.

In fact, wireless has come a long way since "back in the day". UHF diversity units are extremely reliable compared to the old VHF systems.

i use a nady 1001mk1. the reciever is pretty good, but the input on the body pack is kinda flimsy. for 80 bucks brand new it works pretty well. it even gets rid of some hum from my bass.

i've had alota problems with the airline bass...like it swings around in the jack, it pops out alot if your jumping around or what not, and i get clicks some times, no cut outs tho...but personly, i would go with the sennheiser..i'm actualy selling my airline to get a sennhiser... senns are probably the best wirelss for under ad grand, but thats my personal opinion

I wound up w/ the Senn and couldn't be happier!!! My buddies at GC hooked me up for under three bills (yeah!) and of all the wireless units I've used, I feel this will be the one I hold onto until it just up and dies MANY years from now. :D As far as the airlines go, mine just constantly made that damn swishy noise everytime I would move and would cut out from time to time. I also witnessed one get pulled out of an axe at a show by a "fan" who subsequently thought it would be cool to invite it into the mosh pit

Beware of the frequency range especially for a 5-string bass. Sennheiser I believe doesn't go below 50Hz. I did a search a while ago and only Shure claimed to go down to 25Hz. I'm talking about specs, I've never tried one of them.

I've used the Shure UT14 The Guitarist for a while now, and have had no problems, or signal coloring. Although at some distance, I notice a bit of delay, but that may be normal.

Yeah, the delay is perfectly normal. Its just a matter of the time it take the signal to get back to the amp and then for the sound to get back to your ears. I found that out the hard way on time when I thought I'd be a bad ass and run to the pool tables on the other side of the club. Between that and the PA delay... lets just say it weren't pretty

Yeah, that's when I experience it too, when I'm playing the strolling minstrel to the folks at the back of the bar who don't seem to be paying too much attention to us.
