Mine ain't leavin' AZ. I'm gonna have to see if Steebo is up for dinner or somethin'. Atleast get to meet another of the forumites in person. If wishes were fishes, I'd have been a smelly man at the Open House.

Yeah, I have a feeling all the NAMM orders are gonna be done around the same time and somebody is gonna be bustin' at the seams to share with us.

And, no, as long as I've known you, you haven't been wrong, just misunderstood. ;)

That's right, you're just a hop/skip/jump away from Steve, so you've got a real shot at picking up your bass right from the man himself.

I'm wondering who else here has a bass on order from NAMM ~ gonna be quite the forum party...via internet! :D

Misunderstood = story of my life. ;)

Not sure what the final number was but there was a flurry of ordering. Lotta single H's.

Don't worry. Atleast you're not as misunderstood as Jeffrey Dahmer was.

I gotta a single H :) :)

Anyone that doesn't have one is missing out on something. IMHO

Best thing since women were created.

IMHO once again.

Speaking of Jack, I went to see Cowpilot tonight and he brought the BP Bongo, complete with the original Slinkys still on it. He didn't play it while I was there, opting for his single coil/HB Bongo but he let me have a little go at it before the band started up.

It was SO light, hope mine is as light. Action was low and it kicked serious a** with the rounds. I haven't played Slinkys in years but my Bongo will wear them proudly. When I heard this bass in the video I was hooked. I want mine set up just like BP's.

Of all the EBMM's I've had so far, this one I am most excited about.

Cowpilot rocked the house BTW, had a great time and got to see some good buddies.

I always liked Teddy Gentry's (the bass player with Alabama) black/black/maple SR with a Sabre neck that he played in the early '80s. That was my first exposure to the Stingray. Then, sometime in the late '90s, my soon-to-be wife & I often went to see a local band called Magnolia. The bass player had an SR4, and that really made me want to get one. I eventually got my first 'Ray in 2000, and I'm now on my 3rd 'Ray. (Too bad I don't still have all of them! :D)

I certainly did play it! Ray, you left just before the women's underthings were tossed at us. Or maybe at Brian, anyway. Some other really odd things went on, but I addressed that in another thread.

I haven't done a thing to the BP Bongo besides straplocks, since all my straps are equipped with the things. The action is just like it was when it arrived, the strings haven't been changed and although it was a bit odd playing a 4 for an entire set, that's just what I did.

The Slinkys KILLED. The bass ruled the earth. I had such a fine time playing this sumbitch. Man! Sterling, I have thanked you in every way known to man, short of prison love, but dammit - thank you again. Not only do I love the bass, I've rediscovered some really groovy stuff about Slinkys. (And Heinz wore Slinkys for years.)

It was really fun watching Ben (Oldtoe) get reaquainted with the "Open House" bass, too.

I tell you, that place was a complete dive, but we had such a good time, and the Bongos were a big part of what I enjoyed about it.

And good friends, who have to love you even if you play weird stuff.

There's a bar in Livermore, Ca. called the Pine Street Bar & Grill, and they've been holding weekly jams there for about forever.

Hey timmerz, welcome to EBF! I know Pine Street very well...gigged there a few times when I first got started up here. From what I hear, their jam nights are still some of the best of the Bay Area!

Is Larry Berman still playing drums at the jams? I'm waay overdue to head out there for a sit-in.

Anyway, enjoy the forum!

Ha! I know Larry, he's an excellent drummer, we've jammed together many times, came close to being in the same pick-up band a couple of times, too....as far as I know, he's not doing the Pine Street, but he is definitely involved in a couple of weekly jams around the Bay Area, Uncle Roy's in Hayward and The Huddle in Fremont, I think....he's still playing actively with about 4 gigging bands, also....been awhile since I've seen him, but I hear from other bass players that are either gigging with him or going to jam nights where he is.
Thanks for the welcome! Great to meet you!

No one got me addicted.....except for the first JP6 I purchased. It was all downhill from there and it is still going.......
+1.
No big time celeb bassist has 'hooked' me on any of the many varied basses I use. It's the basses themselves. So, it has to be the Ball family's doings when it comes to EBMM basses, simply that they built it, and I found it hanging on the wall, and it followed me home. OTOH, since my 1st MM is my '91 Ray, whose greatest difference from a Leo Ray is 'under the hood', and since all that stuff happened to be Seymour Duncan on the Ray that followed me home [and it was not the 1st Ray I had tried], I guess EBMM and Duncan BassLines equally share the blame for unleashing me and a fretless Ray onto the local scene.

It was definitely the discussions on this forum and the Pit that put a Bongo in my hands. I would have assumed it to simply be an uglee version of all the Rays that I did *not* bring home, except for all the controversy online. So I tried a Bongo partly cuz it had a stoopid low clearance price but definitely because of discussions online claiming that it sounded very different from the earlier MM basses. So I guess some bean counters at GC headquarters are also to blame.

At this moment, I could not name which big time celeb players play MM. No one sells me on them. They sell themselves.

I thought I saw Jeffrey Dahmer in the frozen pizza aisle. He seemed very busy and distracted ........

In the early 80´s, I saw Cliff Williams from AC/DC, then The Cure basisst Simon Gallup. Years ago, Flea and Louis Johnson.
Finally, after 35 years of dreaming in those basses, last 2005 Christmas, Santa comes with a beautiful all black (except headstock) Stingray.
Now I don´t have enough time to play.

Got me hooked!

I had all Rickenbacker basses for years. With the exception of one Steinberger and a Vox. Our local music store got the Music Man franchise, and I told the owner I would buy a fretless Sterling. Now I have 5 Music Man Basses and no Rickys. I do still have the Steinberger though............

I'm only a part-time bassist, but the most awesome fretless bass sound i remember hearing was Pino Palladino's tone on those old Paul Young recordings in the early '80s.

A fretless Stingray (or was it a Cutlass?) with an octave divider is just about the most awesome growl there is.
