I grew up in Mississippi. Peavey was plentiful, relatively inexpensive and was not made by Sears. I've had all kinds of Peavey gear, although I am not at all sure I ever had a TNT.

I did have a big scary Peavey something head which ran two giant Peavey 2-15 cabinets back in the dark ages (1970s).

See? I remember that it was very loud and the tone sucked like a black hole, but that could have been that ugly-ass and quite hateful bass seen in the photo.

Flash forward to the new century. I left this magic rig in a local dive where we had open jams in San Antonio:

I have no idea how many watts that head is. It's a Session Bass head, for anyone curious enough to Google it. I know I never have been.

And a 1-15 cabinet. It sounds surprisingly good, but that probably has something to do with the basses I play through it.

Go Peavey!

Jack

You kind of looked like the 80's version of Adam Clayton from U2!! You should grow that fro again!! :D

If you gave mine a smiley face EQ and kicked it a few good times, you could almost get a decent tone out of it.

Now it's used in some local teenage metal band. Dark, muddy, tasteless. Fits right in eh? :D

For about the first 10 years of my playing I used a TNT150.....I still have it. Every once in a while it starts making a noise & I have to hit the top of it...but aside from that it still works fine.
I also have a TKO 80 in my bedroom for practice & learning songs.

Just recently replaced it with EDEN Nemesis and Avatars. But I actually still have the TNT and will be using it for certain gigs. And I'm a skinny guy (with a sore back!).

the peavey KB300 was a nice combo as well. the black widows really can take some brutality fer sure. I had a rig very similar to Jacks sans the peavey cabes. i had the old sunn 2X15 side firing cabs and they sounded pretty damned good i thought. at least at the time....

I bought a TNT130 new back @ 81 (if aging memory serves!). A friend of mine still uses it!

Back in 1978 my friend and I went to go buy our first "REAL" amps for our band. I bought a Basic something (guitar amp) and he got a TNT130. About 10 years later I switched to bass, bought the TNT from him, and it's been pretty much the only amp I've used since - and I've played well over 1000 shows (I should try and count one day).

My experience: 1st off, I belive they just don't make em like they used to. I've played other Peaveys and they don't seem to kick out the volume or sound that this one does. It has a black widow, I think that has a lot to do with it. I bought another one a few years ago as a backup without a black widow and it seemed like half the amp. I gave it to my brother for his basement studio. Both amps had to be hit in the head to stop strange things from happening time to time, but I finally brought mine to an authorized dealer and he fixed that problem for around $75. Don't know what the problem was but I'm glad it's over with. It's heavey. I've gotten used to it. Uhh... what else... Oh yeah - I tried to upgrade several times and NONE of what I bought came close to matching the power or sound of the Peavey. I had a Hartke with 4X10 that sounded like a toy in comparison, an Ampeg BA115, another older more expensive ampeg combo, a couple of other combos. Nothing else matched it. I've yet to hear a 1X15 combo that I like as much as this. Next amp's gotta be a stack if I'm going to be happy. Did I mention I covered the amp with naked women. I posted pics once on talkbass but they yelled at me and deleted it. Oh well. I got most of them from Perfect 10 magazine, so I think it's kinda classy - nothing really raunchy. It's time for a new covering as this one is beat to all hell. Used to recover it every year or so - it's been about 5 now... I'm going off on a pointless tangent here now... anyone ever notice I'm obsessed with nakedness? What the hell is that all about? Part of why I don't drink anymore is because I used to always take off all my clothes at parties. It used to really get the ball rolling sometimes. That's only a small part of it...

Yeah, Peavey amps rock.

After lugging my newly purchased TNT115 ("Black Widow equipped") from the guitar shop to the car (about two blocks) I swore I would never purchase a cab with a single top carrying handle again (and I haven't)! What is up with that? Who designs something so heavy with a single handle at the top? I'm no wuss, but I seriously damaged my arm carrying that damned thing.

It was the biggest and best I could afford at the time (back in the day), but didn't even consider lifting the bloody thing before agreeing to buy it. I really should have bargained an "only if you carry it to my car" deal into the equation! I remember my mum was actually moving house the next day, and she was pretty peeved when my lifting capacity was suddenly seriously reduced thanks to carrying that combo amp!

Oh well, live and learn. It did last for as long as I needed it, and was even passed on to some teenager 10 years later in the same condition I brought it home in. Due to the weight it didn't move around much without added muscle. :)

I don't recall playing through a TNT, but my first amp was a Peav. combo 300. Later matched it with a Peav. 1516 (15 w/2-8"). Sounded really good when it worked! Found out a loose wire was causing me problems. I bought (my mom got it for my b-day)) the combo off a guy that used to play with Dickie Betts and the Allmans years ago. I still see him 1-2 times a month. He still has a bass he bought new. 1962 (?) Jazz. Left handed bass!

Ah, Peaveys...the Ford Tauruses of the amp world: they'll get you where you want to go, but you won't get there very fast or look very good on the way...they are pretty much bullet proof, though! A P-bass through a TNT 115 is the perfect punk rock bass rig, IMHO....nasty, honking, satuarated mid-range distortion that just screams "I sound like shiite and I like it!"

I also had a TX210 combo that wasn't THAT bad (just not real good, either). My drummer blew it up with his Roland V-drums.

"Bang. Bang....(silence)"

Best that frickin' thing ever sounded!

I am also guilty of harboring a "Studio Pro 40" geetar amp that I use for CDs, vocals, or when I am feeling like wallowing in a sea of stereo chorus. I don't think it will be a permanent resident.

I owned several Peavey bass amps and all of them were really good, reliable and roadworthy.

One of the best setup I had was a Peavey T-Max head and a 115 Black widow cabinet along with a 210 TXF cab. Still missing that rig as of today !

Now, I play MarkBass amps, since two weeks ago !!!! Man, these amps are so good and really it makes my Stingray 4 shine well !

I was awaiting patiently for the new Pro series to come out, which are like the older T-Max heads with two channels, but Peavey told me they would probably not be released at leats until the end of this year... too bad cause I am now a big fan of MarkBass amps. And, Peavey will now promote their new Neo speakers as well !!!

Check them out !
