and you don't have to be a genius to work it out - if you search Fleabay for EVH - you'll a load of hits for "Other guitars" made by less good compaines (Hi legal dept)

but only a handful of misguided people selling the EBMM !!

EBMM - Because you'd just be dumb to buy anything else.

let me try to put a positive spin on this.....
like most things in life, you get what you pay for and a little less.

When it comes to guitars, there's LOTS of selection. I have a CIJ (Japan) tele that kicks ass! It was a sweet deal and sounded pretty nice stock BUT once I upgraded the pots, switches, pickups and saddles it REALLY sounded great.
Now, considering all the above was purchased new, the total amount made it a pretty good but not great deal.

My point is, if you're trying to save a buck but still have have a quality instrument, your best bet is to buy a used EBMM. Be patient, look around (look at Foggy!)

Nothing says Axis like a real Axis.

Warmoth ain't cheap...trust me. I built my Tele from Warmoth wood, and it cost at least as much as an American Tele. I paid $US600 just for the finished body and neck. (White Korina is an incredible tone wood by the way!)

If I were looking to buy an Axis, the real deal is the only way to go IMHO.

I agree, Warmoth are not cheap. The other thing to consider is the low resale value of "parts" guitars. If you buy one be prepared to either keep it long term or take a bath if you want to sell it later.

IMHO the only way to go is the with the EBMM.
EBMM sweats the details to make sure the quality is there.
For instance I just took the volume knob off my StingRay. There's a teflon washer between the bottom of the knob and the top of the pot. I've never seen that on the other guys instruments.
It spaces the height of the knob consistently and makes production more consistent and faster since you don't have to measure the height of the knob when installing them. It also prevents scratching and noise between the pot and the knob when turning the knob. A simple thing but very clever.

I've never seen a copy, including the OLP, that was comparable to the real Axis. The OLP is a good guitar for the money. But the neck isn't at all the same and it doesn't have a maple top on the body.

I'm assuing the Peavey comment was a joke but if it isn't it should be. The Wolfgangs are significantly different than the Axis.

I would say the copies are much more visual copies than practical ones.

The OLP is a decent bang-for-your-buck instrument though.

Nonbody else should be even making replicas to start with nor should you be evn contemplating buying a cheap knock off either as it does no good for EBMM's name or principles.

They should all be shut down for copyright and patent infringemnets....

Get the real thing or at the very least an OLP.....that stands for Officially Licensed Product and theres a reason for that you know!

I've seen luthier copys in my home country and they were perfect! Check Hathor guitars if you get a chance... It is very hard to buy them, cause nobody wants to sell it...

I'm not doubting they aren't perfect. Anybody can copy.....look at the music industry but its the fine detail/behind the scenes/established compnay/customer service/package that clinches the deal!

I bought an OLP mm1 then bought the real deal Axis a few months later.

The OLP is OK, but it took about 3 seconds to realize the Axis is a way finer instrument.

Save up for the real deal.

Warmoth doesn't sell Axis copies, they will sell you a body with the same shape, and a similar-ish headstock on a neck. When you factor in body/neck/pickups/hardware/paint/time, you may as well buy an Axis.

OLP, has licensed the design of the guitar, that's it. You get the 'look' of the Axis in their guitar, nothing else.

This is horrible question for a MusicMan forum.
