Go ball or don't go at all! A lotta companies may make the body style with an alright top but NOBODY is gonna match EBMM's neck finish and wood qualities. I'd put a nickel to a dime on that jack!

My advice would be to find a solid color axis super sport on ebay.

I don't think that big companies can do that, but individual luthiers or small luthier manufactures can - that's for sure...

but thats why we play EBMM.the feel of a pro custom shop guitar without all the extra expense,searching etc - tight made guitars to last a lifetime - ebmm do great guitar building consistently and effortlessly.that's peace of mind....

The OLP's are VERY good guitars for the money.

If you are after a "First Guitar" for a small outlay then you won't go far wrong in gettingan Axis type OLP. Then by the time you have saved and "paid yer dues" you will realise that the Albert Lee is THE finest guitar out there and you will shell out on one!(or 2!)

I was born in Poland where luthier guitars are usually much cheaper than those made by EBMM... Here in States prices are different... That's why I love MM - luthier quality in production guitar.

utherwhys, thanks for the helpful tips. i plan to get a cheap copy as a backup........but i doubt that IT will get as much attention as my SS piezo.

I can safely say this. I've tried to build replicas out of parts. And I spent the same amount of money that I would have if I had just bought the real thing.

I've even tried Warmoth's products. While they are of good quality, they aren't anywhere near the right size, shape, or tolerances of a real EBMM.

After some very frustrating attempts, I just bought a real AXIS off eBay.

Why settle for someone's copy, when for the same money, you can get the real thing.

I'll reiterate what everyone has said about the OLP. For it's price, it's a pretty good beginner guitar. I tinkered around with one at GC this weekend, and it's not bad. Then I get home and pick up my Axis
