Question Who regularly gigs their "Collector" piece(s)?

I was just wondering who here regularly plays/gigs their "collector" piece...Your LE, Dargie, BFR, Vintage, or Anniversary models????

My Dargie II only has a couple of gigs under her belt, but with 5 upcoming shows (a couple in "Dive" bars), I'm worried about it getting beat up. Part of me wants to case it(and never take it out of the house)...the other part of me wants to just let it get its first chip, ding, or scratch.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too. I do happen to have my other Slo SR4HH, which sounds just as nice. Wasn't much cheaper either!

I rotate through all my MM basses at various gigs, even my DD1 fretless (a rare beast). I may not bring them all to a single gig, but they all see action at live shows.

I'm with Jack - they're made to be played. And I bought them to be played.

my 07le has toured australia plenty of times from dives to massive stages and is quite beat up (including the awesome blue case ) and i wouldnt have it any other way this bass has been like a best friend has not once let me down

My basses are on rotation, as I don't gig very often I have to be carfeul what bass i play live so that they all get used.

I am not sure I have any collectors pieces. All my basses have seen some live gigs. I do stand to inherit two collectors shortly, which probably won't get out much, if at all. They are too sentimental.

Hm. I did gig my DD1 SR4 H and currently do gig my DD 1 SR4HH fretless. I also gigged the Ebony SR4HH fretless. But I don't gig the Anniversary basses, mostly because I think that beautiful wood topped basses absolutely don't fit a ska/rock setup. Secondly, they don't really fit my playing needs (I'm just totally hooked on the HH models). That said, I wouldn't hesitate to take my 25th to a singer/songwriter club gig or a wedding.

i said i would gig my redwood but that bass is so scary i dont even dare to take it out of its case.. hehe

I gig my fretless 30th anny. all the time. It took it's first (and only so far) good hit on a metal bleecher at of all places a church gig. This bass sounds to good to keep in a case. If I will be afraid to play it I don't buy it.

It's a tool, it makes me money and I've played enough gigs on it that it's paid for so to speak.

For the past five years, all I ever bought was the LE/anniv models, so they get played. My 78 Ray has probably still been my most gigged player though.
But looking through my collection of other brand basses, everything is rather rare or impossible for me to replace, and it all gets used without a second thought.

There are no "collector basses" in my house. If I own it gets played. When I bought my 30th Stingray it was on sale for a reason - a few dings. This eliminated the fear of the first ouch. I also am only playing in churches and coffee houses these days. So my bass is fairly safe from being accosted.

My 93 fretless is the bass I use with my main band, birds eye neck and all - it got played in the diviest bar I've ever been in Friday night - all of the walls and ceiling covered in English football team shirts, smell of glue at regular intervals, half of the audience drunk.

I play the LE2007 regularly in jam sessions - depends on who runs the jam as to what standard of back line you get but the HH Ray cuts even through crappy little War**ck combos, when the guitars have bigger Marshalls and stuff.

I've got to play something.... I'm careful but they all get played. I actually think it's kind of sad when an instrument becomes a wall ornament or solely an investment. Like Jack said they're meant to be played.

I play all my basses, but I rotate them every month or so.
