Why aren't there thicker strings than .135 for bass?

Hey there!

I'm wondering why doesn't EB make thicker bass string than .135? Especially with a lot of bands out there who tune really low.

I play in drop A# on bass, currently have warwick strings on and even a 140 isn't high tension for me. I personally loved the cobalt strings on guitar, and from sound samples they really sound amazing on bass, so sad there aren't thicker gauges available :(
 
There aren't many major makers making strings above .135. There is definitely a limit to how thick you can make a string for a fretted instrument. Also, it doesn't matter how thick a string you make, there are limits to how low you can go with a specific scale length.
 
I use a 135-50 set of nickels on a 34inch scale for ADGCF with no issues at all, plenty of tension on everything.
Going heavier doesn’t always mean more tension, it’s all in the set up
