...like I just did. It seems like the HH is a no brainer. I started out wanting an HH SR4, but opted for an HS instead. To me the HS configuration just looks right on a Ray.
If you've got an HS model, what was your reason?

Some people like the sound of a single coil by itself, while the HH models will always have two active coils, no matter what postion you select?

Because I already have HH on a Bongo? :p Well, I don't have a HS, but a HS Sterling is up high on my GAS list.

I have 2 HS & 1 HH Bongo. Reason I prefer the HS is I pick hard & don't like picking directly over the pickup.......w/ the single coil, my thumb rests on the pickup & I wind up picking below the pickup. Also on the HH it tends to be a bit too boomy & I wind up panning more to the bridge pickup.

I'm really an HH type. Not just with MusicMan. It's my basic package, for fretted basses. But if you want a fretless, not that HH won't do it justice, but to me FL is all about the bridge PU, with the neck PU [if present at all] blended in just enuf to fill out the bottom [if needed]. If ever I get a FL Bongo, I'd prefer the HSC+P. But it's gonna hafta do a better job than my single PU SR4FL, or else what's the point?

I wish you could play my fretless, it would definately give you a good idea...everybody who has played it thinks it is phenomenal.
