Why do I like Sting Ray's compared to Fender?

Because the way they feel, sound, and look.
The only downside for Sting Ray's is because they cost so much.
Fender makes some damn good basses, and they're a lot cheaper.
I still prefer Ernie Ball over Fender.

I do like the older Fenders, they sound great....... but the newer Fenders, not so much......But either way, the StingRay is a FAR superior bass, to both the old, and new Fenders.

Ever since I first picked up a EBMM StingRay, there was something about that bass that was different than any other bass I've ever played....... the combination of sound, looks, and the feel of the neck was just right, it felt like home. Thats why I prefer StingRay's over Fender, and any other basses out there.

But now I'm wanting to buy a Sterling!

because it's the first bass in my life that doesn't make me wanna change something in it to upgrade, like changing the bridge or the tuners or pups.
everything is perfect and built like a tank.

the only problem I'm having now is the pu with no contoured poles, but it's a minor problem.

I bought a new P bass 2 years ago,its a nice bass,the neck took alot of work to get the right feel,the colour is nice........its NICE

it is no match for a Musicman,in any shape or form just a different type of class.

its like comparing a toyota with a Mercedes

and as for the SR5...well if its not the best Bass the world has ever seen then i dont know what is!!!! ( mind you I have never played a Bongo,so I might be wrong)

I was showing off the Dargie last night at the local jam and someone asked me how many bass I own. I rattled off what I could remember and then he asked why so many EBMM’s? I said, “For me, they are the best bass, I like everything about them.”

The Stingray's balance and powerful tone is hard to beat. But I do like Fenders though. Stingrays, J-basses and P-basses; that's THE bass triumvirate in my world.

I have a healthy respect for a good P bass. I owned and played a Franken-P for many, many years, and it came to be known as the Fungo Bat Utility Bass (I was in a band called "Fungo Bat", okay?).

I've bought a few over the last ten years, and some of them were better than others and none of them were complete dogs, but I just can't play them anymore.

Spoiled, completely spoiled, I guess.

Might be a Jazz bass in the closet, though.

I've always enjoyed F#nders; had Jazzes for years & now have a P. I noodled on the P a bit today, but it just can't compare to my 'Rays. There's nothing wrong with the P...I'm just spoiled by the MM basses!

i've got a franken p and a franken j (they were never a F*** tho). never play em tho even though theyre modded to all hell with "top notch" everythings in em.

like it was said above.. MMs are the only instruments ive never even considered modding. to me that says a TON

I have only played my Jazz once since I got my SR5 HH. I'm in the process of trading the Jazz in for an Sterling HH. I used to love the sound of it, but when I pick it up now it's not the same. I get a more fuller Jazz sound from the SR5 HH on the 1st postion and crank the mids a bit.. It not the same Jazz anymore. "It's not you, it's me!" I've seen the light. I get so much more sound and tone from the EBMM basses, the Fenders only touch a very small part of them.

I forgot one important thing,
the SR4 made me discover something I never found in any other bass I owned:

the real meaning of "balanced bass"
I love it.

I own and play both (namely a MIM Jazz bass and SUB Sterling)

both are fantastic instruments and both do their own thing, they both sound and feel differently and both have a place in my guitar rack.

I will say the Sterling is a step above in terms of quality, it just seems much better finished, but then it did cost a fair amount more than the jazz...

I love my Sterling, and if I had to choose would probably go for it first. But I ain't getting rid of my Fender quite yet.

I have a nice 76 P and a beautiful 2002 Sr5.

The P is great, funky and fun. But the SR5 has a much more dynamic and flexible sound - especially in a big band. It's clearer, stronger, has a great high end but still with a lot of bottom. For me, it's the sound that sets it apart. I feel a little bad to have a vintage P sitting in a case, but it gets out once in a while. Just not much.

I think the SR5 is the "p" of 5 strings: a straightforward, early design that totally got it right.
