It just seems that any EBMM you play feels great in you own hands and seems like it was set up for you personally.

I see that the second option is the most popular but if I'm being honest I'd have to say its the designs that really get me. I love the shape of every EBMM, aside from the new Petrucci (those without sin, cast the first stone!). The fit and finish, etc. certainly add to it but if I hated the designs I wouldn't play them.

I bought my first MM on Ebay without ever seeing (1st hand) or touching one first , as none of my local stores carried any MusicMan. I basically took a gamble based on photos and discovering this forum.Since scouring the forum I have been introduced to Dream Theater and Petrucci and have fallen in love with his signature model so much so I purchased a JP6 LTD.
It was a great gamble , great tones, fit , and finish and amazing feel ,love the unfinished necks !!
All I can say is bring back some of those rare beautiful colors like burnt apple ,and keep up the good work !:D

For me, its a combination of everything. I love the fit, finish, design and construction of the BFR JP. Everytime I play it I smile and realize that I finally have found the perfect guitar. Although, most of me playing the BFR and EB in general is because of JP. The tone and amazing quality just stuns me everytime I play this Ruby Red beauty.

After reading this again I would have to say the reason I play Music Man guitars is because of the tone and feel on the guitars

The fact that it was available left hand in a gorgeous colour made me order my SS, the high standard of construction & light weight made it my #1 guitar. Tone was less important as I was playing through a Boss GT5 and didn't notice any major difference from my Strat....except the lack of shoulder strain. Bought my ASS MM90 on a whim and it's the most comfortable electric guitar I've ever played.
Can't agee with the "Fender make shoddy products " comments which seem to occur rather often on here, I had a very nice USA Strat & an excellent Strat Deluxe. Just prefer the smaller & lighter EBMMs, but that doesn't make Fender & Gibson users all idiots.
Agree that brand awareness of EBMM guitars is not high....still, with a 6 month waiting list are they worrying? I guess if they increased brand awareness they'd need a new factory and we wouldn't all feel we were memebers of an exclusive club.

I would have to say what drew me to purchase my Y2d fixed was the action and playability. I also felt I was getting my moneys worth. It was by far the most expensive guitar I ever owned . Since then I havent found a new guitar that compaired in quality and playability , at any price. I actualy play alot more since I bought my ebmm. To expand my arsenal I orderd a Axis ss I am eagerly waiting for.
Now the Morse and Axis are both closely associated with famouse guitarist, as awsome as these players are I dont have any of there music . I actualy dont know that much about Steve at all (but I love that guitar). I am the only one I know that has a ebmm. I could care less whos name is associated with Ebmm or a model(unless Big Pappa wants to give me some free stuff).

I like that they are made in the usa, I like the heritage of the brand. I like that not everyone plays them and there are not a hundred of them in every guitar center. But I love the neck , action, and quality of my ebmm.

why do I play balls many reasons, the 2 that make me reach for my credit card are: -

1. - When you pickup one before puttng it into an amp it sounds and feels really good and the general "this was put together by someone who is passionate about their work" thing rings out

2. - You can pickup one play it and like it - then if you want another you can just get one over the phone - they feel the same, no guessing if one will be heavier than the other !

Smelly.

Why do we play Ernie Balls? is it because of endorsees? Fit and finish? Construction? Tone? Design or simply because we were influenced to by friends?

Lets hear it. What made you pick up your first ball?
.........

Back in about February while I was searching YouTube for different versions of the old Beatles classic "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" I came across Toto's live version. I noticed Luke playing an unknown (to me) brand of guitar with an unusual headstock and tuner arrangement.
A month or so later I see Albert Lee playing on the Crossroads 2007 DVD that a friend showed me, and his guitar had the same unfamiliar headstock as Luke's.
I did some research and bought a Silhouette Special, online.

This guitar is the easiest-playing guitar that I have ever played. Second best would be my '78 Guild S-300 with an ebony FB, and my ~'74 Gibson ES-150 DC that I sold many years ago..........duh.

Ritalin Version:
Saw Luke, saw AL, both were playing an unknown (to me) brand of guitar. Researched, found Ernie Ball Music Man guitars. Became happier.

To be honest, I was really resistant for a long time. Don't really know why; I couldn't get used to the Axis shape for a long time, and then I didn't want to look like an EVH copy, even though I play nothing like the guy (I wish I did).

I finally got to the point where I was tired of paying huge dollars for a decent Gibson (nearly $5K American for my last 59 Historic LP), I wanted a guitar that had a good vibrato bar, and I wanted something that not only looked great, but sounded great and was a good playing guitar. My tech actually was the one that sort of got me thinking about the MM Axis, and then I started thinking about what great tones EVH and DJ Ashba got out of these (DJ got some great sounds with it when he was with Beautiful Creatures-a great band BTW), so I decided to take the plunge. I sold a recently aquired PRS Custom 24, pocketed a huge amount of cash from the sale, and with the remaining cash bought a new Axis with a Floyd. It was supposed to be here a few days ago, but it now looks like it will arrive on Tuesday. I am hopeful that my instincts and resources were correct and that I will be rewarded with a real gem; I have no reason not to believe this to be the case as no one that I can find have said anything bad about these guitars.

Anyway, long winded, but that's my reason for playing one.

I've been a Strat player forever and I stumbled across the OLP Luke and took a chance on it. I had never played it or any MM guitar before. I really liked the neck and the sounds so I did some research.

First - I found out you almost can't find a used Luke. That told me that people love them and don't part with them so I thought here must be something special to them.

Second - I found the forum here and did more research. MM owners are passionate and intelligent about their guitars. That said a lot about the mental state of MM owners and what they expect from their instruments.

Third - I looked at what artists were playing MM instruments. It seemed as if something special was going on because all the pros using MM are monster players that expect quality and performance from their tools.

So to me it just seemed like a perfect fit. I put #2 on the poll but most any reason is good enough once you start to understand the quality of the MM line of instruments.

Now that Silo Special is looking pretty cool too.;)

The endorced artists caught my eye first and foremost. After I tried a couple of them out I quickly transitioned to the second option. EBMM are top notch guitars that, imo, are near impossible to surpass.

Because they sound great (as in "I get the sound I always wanted"), because the instruments feel good, because I like the design and because the quality is good. Actually, every one of these reasons is a "sine qua non" criterion. Yep, hard to please... but the EBMM SR just does it for me.
