Wasn't the JP Ibanez basically just an RG with the volume pot moved slightly farther away from the bridge pickup?

Every one of their signature models is just an RG with a slight change like a fretboard inlay or a change in the way the controls are laid out. The PGM was just a 570 with maple fretboard, reverse headstock and nice paint/pickups.

Then why do some of their artists talk about their signature models as if they are groundbreaking and unique?

No...the Ibi JP had the viper neck...which I don't believe has ever been on anything else.

Whats the viper neck?

An Ibanez neck which has 42mm at nut, 56mm at heel (narrower than Ibanez Wizard neck), rounder profile, and a smaller fretboard radius. It feels really "small" on your hand, so people like to speculate whether the JP6 neck was based on it (mainly because the JP6 neck also feels "small").

Sounds similar to my Axis neck. I had an Ibanez prestige a few years ago but sold it because there were 2 things I couldn't get used to 1. the wide neck and 2. the flatness of the neck. I also didn't care for the placement of the volume knob but that wasn't a deal killer. Are any of the new Ibanez models more like the JP100? Premium Series?

A good friend of mine has a P1, and it's a great guitar. The pickups sound really good, and the middle position on the pickup switch is amazing. A very hi-fi single coil sound. In some ways I kinda want one, but it's not going to happen as long as he still has his (and I hope he'll keep it forever - if not, I'm buying it :D )

It's a lot like women and dresses - you don't wear the same dress as your good friend! ;)

The Ibanez JP was enough different from the regular RG. It was basswood it had a different switching system had differently placed volume and tone knobs and a different neck.

I think this one has run it's course. I've already had to delete a bunch of posts - that went over the line.

sambarugh- I'm getting a little tired of the negative comments. Take a break for a while.
