Well I did not mean to stir you all up.
I really love my Silhouettes.
I still believe that they are the most consistently made guitars on the planet.
A mate of mine imported late 50's and early 60's Strats and i got to play an awful lot of vintage guitars. Not one of them sounded better than my original 86 Silo. Different some of them but not better. I would not have swapped for any of them.
I can understand the frustration on the part of Musicman that certain pickup manufacturers were snotty about their pickups being used.

My reason for being attracted to the Silhouette was the modular construction. I guess I have made use of that. Also I guess that pickup choice is one of those rather personal areas.
Barekuckle over here in th UK is I feel one of the very best p/u manufacturers around. Give them a try as they have a tone for everyone. However the exchange rate has pushed the price up a little for you Yanks.

You can always add these (and other) pickups to your guitar...

who me ????
sarcastic?????
toward a grumpy first post before my morning mountain dew ??
i am sorry......
i do use some lollar single coils in some positions in some of my balls. but do i also leave alot of stock pickups in place cause they sound awesome w/ my rigs.
if there was a 'BEST "pickup.......surely there wouldn't be the endless options all the manufacturers offer.
that killer albert lee bridge pickup is made by duncan.
some of the best pickups made are by dimarzio. some are by duncan. some are by lollar. ect. ect. ect.

lol.. Tommy, do I detect a hint of sarcasm? ;)

So does this mean that I CAN get a silo, and change it to an SSS config simply by changing the pickguard?

i think the answer would be YES. that's why i bought another pick guard (ssh)so i can change my pick up configuration when it's needed. (my silo is sss)..
