It seems as though a lot of people would buy them. Is this a Dimarzio thing or an EBMM thing? I don't get it:confused:

It's not that unusual. Just a wild guess, but DiMarzio is just the contract manufacturer producing the pickup for their OEM client, EBMM. It is EBMM's proprietary product (name, design, etc.) so DiMarzio can't sell what isn't theirs. EBMM is in the guitar business, not the component business, so unless they change their business model you will have to buy an Axis if you want those pickups.

Similarly, you can only buy a Pearly Gates Plus from Fender (they ARE in the component business). You can't get one from Duncan - it is a Fender OEM product.

Yep, it's an EBMM thing. EBMM doesn't sell proprietary parts like bodies, necks, Silent Circuit, speciality pickups, etc. for a variety of reasons. They want to sell guitars, not parts.

Among other things, this makes the number of EBMM partscasters out there virtually zero, which I appreciate. When you buy an EBMM, you know exactly what you're getting and who stands behind it.

That said, these kinds of things can be found on the used market from time to time.

+1. EBMM propriety makes their instruments exclusive.
You can literally buy a body and neck from All-Parts or Warmoth, various authentic electronics and hardware from different companies, and duplicate most Fender Strats or Teles out there. With EBMM it's almost impossible to do so.
