That is (sadly) a genuine axis - the body has 5 bolt holes, the OLP only uses 4.

Madmen, I tell you, madmen!

I'm sure that body (with pickups but without neck) has been up on the bay a few times in recent weeks.
I reckon that either the original seller thought they'd have more chance of making a sale if they built it up into a guitar, or failing that someone who already had the neck lying around bought the body and slapped them together thinking that they'd be able to punt it on for a 'tidy sum'.
I say that because if you were going to buy a neck to put on it you'd surely get one of the 'right' (and I do say right advisedly) necks from Frankenstraat.
The way he's bolted that neck on looks terrible. And having that long F****r headstock on the guitar really mucks up the proportions of the Axis body.

'Travesty' is the word I'm thinking of here....

I actually kind of like it.. but I DEFINITELY prefer the EBMM headstock..

I like strat headstocks, though.

Just remember, with that headstock comes a neck that could never hope to be even a tenth as nice as a real EB neck :p

This is true!

I can't tell you how many people I've let play my JP and Luke that are normally strat players..

"Dude, I don't understand.. can't compute.." and then their heads explode from being too comfortable and thanks to Wonder Wipes, cleaning up is no problem!

I am new here, I would have to disagree...it has been my experience that the MM necks are to small. I love the guitars overall and love the style and lets face it they have not priced themselves out of the market yet...this in my book makes them a great value, but it is tough for me to get comfortable with a small neck.

I am a former bass player, this may have something to do with it as well?!?!?!?

Overall the guitar in question has a kind of cool appeal to it...

I guess it comes down to personal preference, but in my 20 years of playing, I've never touched a neck that comes anywhere close to my Axis neck. It's the most comfortable, easy to play neck that I've ever wrapped my hands around. The best neck that I'd ever played prior to picking up an Axis is a very, very, very distant second.

Now, I'm not sure about this, but to me the end of the fingerboard and subsequently the last fret (and, by rule, therefore all the frets) looks a bit too close to the pickup when compared to my all my Axes. There appears to be an overhanging segment on the end of the fingerboard as well, which covers up about half of the truss rod adjustment wheelwell.

If I'm correct, wouldn't this be nearly impossible to intonate??

I would think that the frets would be spaced for a specific scale-length, and if that has been altered pretty much none of the notes would be in tune.

Doesn't look like there is a wheel on that neck. You'd have to take it off to intonate anyway.

If you were looking for this colour (to swap parts from your current Axis with), this one might be cool.

I think the body was smuggled out by an ex-employee. We've seen stuff like that on eBay few times...
