My beautiful wife that I love so much wanted to suprise me for Valentine's Day by buying me a guitar. She knows about my experience with the MusicMans that have touched my hands. She really wanted me to have one. Given her limited knowledge on the subject of guitars (now I know that she really doesn't listen to me rambling all of the time), she got on ebay and purchased an ErnieBall MusicMan Silhouette, or so she thought. A few days ago while she and I are in the car, she starts to ask me questions about MusicMan and Silhouettes, how much they cost and stuff. She then asked me if they made copies and when I said yes, the previously huge smile that she had been holding just dropped. As she asked me the difference between the two, she started to sulk a little more. By this time, I obviously knew that something was up. She goes on to explain that she wanted to suprise me with a guitar for Valentine's Day. She had visited my/our Ebay account and noticed that I was watching an "ErnieBall MusicMan OLP Silhouette". Not knowing what OLP was, she didn't hesitate and thought that she was getting a super-great deal on the price per our previous conversations regarding cost. I was/am so greatful for such a kind and thoughtful gesture. She said that once I received the guitar that she would understand if I returned it. I honestly thought that I was even though I wasn't going to tell her that.
Well, the guitar came in last night and let me tell you, nothing short of impressive. I mean, it's not a MusicMan, don't get me wrong. It is, however, and incredible sounding and playing guitar, not taking into account the price. When you factor that in, I'm just so suprised in disbelief.
Now because my wife purchased it for me, obviously it makes it that much more special. It's definitely a keeper.
On that note, I've decided to start to save for a MusicMan Silhouette. I've played one briefly and I did briefly own a 20th Ann. Silhouette, but I just love the sound variations of the S-S-H config.
Great, great guitars.
Thanks Michelle. I love you.

Gotta give credit to a wife that would purchase her husband a guitar at all! My wife has bought me a couple over the years.
From my experience, most wives want their husbands, miserable, at home, with them with no hobbies. "You want to go play music with your friends for 2 hours!!! No way mister" i've seen it too many times.

I raise my glass to your wife! cheers!!

+A for effort!!! :)

It's a keeper for the emotional value alone!
If anything, it would be a good guitar to experiment with some mods on.

That is so sweet, really. I've heard nothing but good about OLP's. True, not the same as what comes out of SLO, but still a very good playing/sounding guitar. I assume it's a HSS Silo Special, though. Don't think OLP makes an actual Silo, unless I'm mistaken?

Good woman ya got there.

My mate has an Axis OLP - and it is a great guitar for the bucks.
It's priceless with that amount of love behind it!!

Of course it doesn't exist without pics !!!

Edit
Another thing - we did some work on his Axis OLP neck and it now feels so much better.
NICE ONE MRS DARCH!!

Wow, I have to kick and scream to approve a guitar purchase with my FIANCE. I wonder how bad it will be when we are married! Congrats on a cool wife! Like Foggy said, experiment on it and then use it as your 'beater' for taking it to jam sessions and such...

It all goes down a bit easier if you write them a song once in a while. Now try getting approval of upgrading a guitar that was purchased for you, not as easy.

Way to go Darch, evidently you know how to pick em' (that is guitars and wife(s)!!

Yeah, the OLP MM Axis copy is a great guitar (for the money), but I wouldn't throw any money into it to upgrade it. Better just to put that toward the "genuine article".

I had a similar situation with my wife regarding a guitar. I told her to get me a guitar as "hot" as she was, guess what I got??

That's right a Musicman Axis - oh yeah - BP knows how to make em'!!

Very cool story, and great that you have a supportive wife, mine is like that too, and if it is nice hang on to it and do some mods, lets see a pic:)

WOW is right! I wouldn't put up with that type of behavior from my wife, let alone someone I wasn't married to. My wife spends the better part of $200 getting her hair done every six weeks or so. That doesn't include the money she spends on her nails every week. I'm for sure not going to feel guilty about spending a couple thousand bucks on a new guitar once in awhile. BTW, I'm not going to ask for permission either.
