Hey Guys

Wondering if their might be some interest here in a roadie out to WILD WEST GUITARS in Riverside CA. on Saturday July 16th at noon.

As some of you know they stock a large selection of Balls (and other fine guitars) but the main reason I'm going is that my favorite guitar player besides steve Morse is giving a clinic. His name is Laurence Juber. A fingerstyle master who'll absolutely astonish you with his playing.

After seeing this guy, it's hard to look at your guitar the same way. Totally incredible. And he also throws in about 1/2 a dozen Beatles tunes played like you've never seen.

Just a reminder, it's coming up fast.

2 hours of one of the best fingerstyle guitarists around followed by trying out a bunch of ebmm's.

I'm getting there around 11. I think Juber starts at 1pm

He does do a cool version of PP. I think it was on a compilation album that even won a grammy.

But he's really known for his Beatles arrangements and his own compositions which are just outstanding.

He was in Wings for 2-3 years in the 70's when he was around 20!

He's got a lot of cd's out including one of just Beatles tunes that's a 5 star effort (LJ plays the Beatles).

His latest, which I'll pick up on the 16th, is all Wings tunes.

Okay, so nobody wanted to go. I went and it was Juber at his usual...that is to say amazing. WILD WEST GUITARS had certainly had a major face lift since I was last there in dec 2003. They have a full on club like concert stage and sitting area with regular folding chairs AND COMFORTABLE LOUNGE CHAIRS. Also they now have all the guitars hung in rooms (it's in an industrial building). Back in 03 they were all in cases

They had some nice EBMM (none of which I played btw) including a whitle Luke with piezo, a cobalt blue silo, 2 left-handed axis ss 1 tobacco another red, a benji madden, and 2 axis including one of the new rare rosewood kind.

So why didn't I try them? I was running late getting there (stupid traffic) Juber went on right after I got there, and when he was finished, I sure as hell didn't want to listen to ME play.
:(

Note to bassists, they had 3 bongos there and a sterling that was Blue sparkles but not blue dawn. Closer to cobalt blue.

Since I haven't seen him live (yet) I've heard only good things about Bela Fleck but can vouch first hand for Tommy Emmanuel as a premier fingerstyle guitarist. He is just amazing. A quintessential showman who doesn't need any accompaniment other than himself. A personable guy and crowd pleasing entertainer. The interactions with his audiences are spontaneous and often hilarious. His renditions of Beatles tunes are nicely done too. If you're in Oz, you might have heard him close the Sydney Olympics. His own tunes are very tasty and especially (my favorite) the one with percussion sounds he beats out on Aboriginal-based "Initiation". You've got to see and hear it live to believe it.

Tommy e. is playing in hollywood at the knitting factory this wednesday I think 7/20. I might head to see him.

Juber mentioned him yesterday as an example of a guitarist and guitar as one.
