Windings too long

Hey folks,

The new SR4 HH arrived this week. Awesome bass!

Anyway, the bridge only has string-thru option. I put on my go-to strings (Chromes), and the windings extended down below the nut. I managed to scrape off the windings on all of the strings except the E.

Is this a big deal? Will this effect tone or intonation? Should I invest in a set of extra-long Chromes?

Put some slinkys on it and get the tone it was designed for. Plus the strings will be the right length. Congrats on a great looking bass!!!

Wow. Maybe you should consider swapping this 'Ray with someone who is really crazy about getting a STB option?! This is a rare beast...

If it doesn't sound bad, then it shouldn't be a problem... however, I'd invest in some extra long strings, or leave the Super Slinky's on which came with the bass. Great strings IMO.

As far as I know, of the newer ones, only the 30th Anniversary Stingrays and the Classic Stingrays have through-bridge stringing. I can't say I ever seen (or noticed) a standard model having that feature.

I found this out when I went to re-string my brand new Classic Ray with Chromes. I ended up going with a "Super Long Scale" set that fit great.

I don't know what tone it was "designed for" and I don't really give a hoot either. These basses sound absolutely unbelievable with flatwounds.
