I have a hss Silo Special. I have a Dimarzio Cruiser that I'm putting in the neck, I'm keeping the middle stock single and I'm putting an Dimarzio AT-1 in the bridge.

Currently the silent circuit blue lead is/was connected to the same terminal as the black wire from the neck. The neck pickup will now be a humbucker, so no need to re-attach the silent circuit there. If I choose to make position 3middle stock single only, then I'm assuming I would just attach the blue lead from the silent circuit to the same spot that my middle pickup is wired to. Correct? Question - since the middle pickup is wired directly into the silent circuit (via the black wire attached directly to the purple lead from the silent circuit) will the silent circuit still work properly? Hopefully this makes sense.

? - if I choose to make the middle pickup always combine with one of the other pickups (humbuckers), I wouldn't need the silent circuit would I?

? - to remove the silent circuit entirely from the equation, but keep it there in case I switch it up in the future, can I just remove all points of contact from the switch? or do I need to remove the silent circuit from the ground as well?

My plan is to mirror the original stock wiring (of the bridge and keep the Cruiser in full humbucking mode always), but I may look at different switching options. I wasn't aware until today that position 3 wasn't the middle pickup by itself....but now that I know, it sort of explains what I was hearing from the guitar.

I don't remember any of my Str@*$ wiring being as complex as what I'm looking at in my Silo.

BEEJ? LIONEL? Anyone?

Thanks-

Jeremy

Hey Jeremy-

This was SSS? So basically you're replacing the neck and bridge with noisless/buckers and keeping the middle stock. If you don't change the switching (ie split the noisless in the quack positions) then this is pretty straight forward.

Btw, you'll want the Silent Circuit on in the quack positions. That position is normally hum cancelling b/c it uses two oppositely wound noisy pickups. Since neck & bridge will now be humbucking, you'll still have noise from the middle unless you have the SC wired up to it all the time.

I don't have the wiring diagram handy (not at home), but I believe the grounds from the neck & middle (black) are wired to the switch, where they connect to the blue wire from the Silent Circuit.

You don't really need to touch the Silent Circuit. Once you unsolder the p'ups, wire their grounds right to ground (back of the volume pot) rather than to the wiring harness. They won't be in contact with the SC, and it won't do anything to them. Easy. Wire the hot wires to where they were before. I think you'll also need to remove a black jumper wire from the harness- turns off the SC in the quack positions. I'll have to double check that when I see the diagram.

As for the middle p'up- leave it as is.

I saw your PM- I'll be home tomorrow eve and can shoot you one of the EBMM diagrams.

how does the stock middle balance with the cruiser? Does it sound out of place...or do they work well together?

Big shout out to fellow forumite Beej! He knows his stuff, takes his time to answer your questions (even provided me with the wiring diagram for my hss silo spec) and did it all with a great attitude.

My silo special is put back together and I learned some stuff in the process!

Thank you Jason!

:D
