Well, I finally did it! Ordered my first EBMM, a fully loaded JP6 in Graphite Pearl! I'm so excited. I'll be selling my Ibanez RG here in Japan before I head back stateside, even though I really dig it (don't hate). But I'm excited to finally have a JP after 6 or so years of wanting one (ever since the LSFNY dvd)!

So here's where you all can help me: I need your advice on everything, big and small. I want to take care of this guitar better than any guitar I've had before, so I need all your advice from years of owning your Balls. I've owned a lot of guitars, but nothing this expensive and worthy of serious care.

Give me anything from initial setup to cleaning, maintenance, storage, transport, anything! Especially anything you learned over time that you wish you knew when you first got the guitar. Hell, even through what setup you think it sounds best. Anything. Everything. Tell me it all.

I also have a few specific questions I hope some of you can answer:

- What kind of 1/4" cable should I purchase for this? I'd like to run two separate amps, so I guess I'll have to split the signal somewhere along the line. How should I do this best? (may get a EB piezo splitter box) Recommendations on cables/setups?

- I'm used to playing D'Addario 10-46 strings. What strings come with the new JPs and what kind of setup should I do if I change them? (and maybe persuade me to play EB strings?)

- Complete list of oils/polishes/accessories I will need? Lemon oil, Murphy's Oil Soap, etc? What you find works best.

- What not to do?

That's all I can think of. Yes, I have searched and found a lot of information, but this is a general "tell me your mind" kind of thing. I want to be prepared for everything when I first get her.

I'll be in Tokyo, Kyoto and Nara for the next week or so, so my replies may be sporadic. Thanks in advance to all the forumites and BP, this forum is a strong reason to go EBMM (as if the guitars weren't good enough). Thanks everyone!

*Disclaimer: Guitar is not being shipped to Japan. I'm moving back to the US in August and the guitar should be ready around that time. Don't want to stir up any controversy here!

For transportation, locally your hard shell case will do just fine. If you are flying with your guitar perhaps you would want to add some bubble wrap (to the guitar itself)

My JP7 came with 10s so I see no problem there.

As for cleaning it, Im waiting for wonder wipes to be available. But the EB polish cloth does a decent job.

Im a newbie in the family (my guitar was completed on January 15) but I can tell you. You'll want more balls. :)

Congratulations on your purchase!

+1 on Monster Cable. I've been using Monster for a few years now, and the only problems I ever have end up being the jacks they're being plugged into.

Petrucci's come stock with RPS 10-46's, so you should be fine changing between brands, but you don't have to :)

As for what not to do, don't PM BP and don't bypass Customer Service when you need assistance. The forum is fine for general questions like this, but as I'm sure you've seen, things can get ugly when the rules are broken. If something goes wrong with your JP, go to the dealer first. If that doesn't help, then contact CS. There shouldn't be any trouble after that, I haven't had to deal with CS yet and I already know my problem will be taken care of.

The EB FAQ can answer just about any question you may have, and if we can't help you, BP or Customer Service or some of the resident geniuses are at your disposal.

I've used D'Addario 10-46 strings before, but then changed to EB RPS10 (also 10-46).
RPS are WAAAAAAAY better in terms of tuning stability, in my opinion!

I would check out the FAQ about the guitar maintenance and adjustments. Very very good information there.

If you don't plan on jumping up and down on your cords with baseball cleats, I highly recommend Mogami Gold. Most noticeably transparent cable I've ever used. They also make patch cords.

Congrats on your acquisition. Don't worry about the next one just yet. Enjoy the hell out of your JP.

Thanks for the advice everyone... guess I'll be trying out the RPS 10s for sure.
And the Mogami Gold cables look nice, do they make a good stereo cable I can use for the electric/magnetic outputs? Can't find one on MF.
