I've been out of commission for a little while. We took the kids to Carowinds for Spring Break vacation. Our car was broken into, and they cleaned us out! My wife's purse, wallet, (with credit and debit cards, social security cards, etc), our cell phones, two suitcases, BOTH of my laptops, video camera, digital camera, kids' nintendos and ALL the games.....you get the idea. Anyway, I have been saving up for a new 08 LE Axis, and finally had enough enough money...but now I'm back to square one...All my money is going to replacing this stuff as it's not covered under insurance...BUT the family is okay, and that's certainly all that matters.

I just don't get how people can be so cruel....

That sucks big time. People can be so lame as to take things that belong to children. I hate when life gives me these kind of dilemas, but putting family first is always the best thing. Guitars will come.

Oh man, i'm so sorry Jeff. I know it is the worst feeling ever when someone violates your stuff. It's happened to me before. As long as everyone in your family is safe, that is most important. Again, I'm sorry.

Oh yeah...the guitar is the VERY least of my concern. I am truly blessed...I have a healthy family, and "stuff" can be replaced. Lots of personal stuff on the laptops, including a TON of memories of my sister that we lost last year to cancer. We have signed up for a service called "lifelock" that guarantees against identity theft...pretty cool...check it out if you haven't yet. It's mainly just a HUGE inconvenience, and you feel totally violated.

We have a 2007 Chevy Tahoe, and felt pretty safe with the alarm and OnStar, etc...but apparently these punks have a way where they slam something into the key/lock on the door handle and it knocks it out (into the inside of the door) and they can just pop open the door...no alarm or anything!!! They did it in the middle of the day in a busy parking lot....so just take extra precaution with leaving valuables in the car.

Sorry Jeff. It's unbelievable that people do these kind of things. I've been stolen from, although definitely not quite so much, and it makes you vulnerable even in the protection of your own home or car.
Good luck getting you and your family back on your feet.

There's a guy at work here who had the same thing happen to him over the weekend. Totally punched somekind of hole through the latch and viola ... I heard it's some kind of tool that towing services use and that is readily available to the public. :(
Totally lame. I'm so sorry. Hopefully the conscience of these fools will get the best of them!

These stories have me craving for some middle eastern justice. You don't know how much I hate personal property being vandalised or stolen. I hope all of your stuff can be recovered, and I'm happy your family is doing well.

Glock, the dude at work here had his car broken into at the La Quinta cove up at the top near the trails. Beware up there! Also the parking areas for the Palm Desert trail next to Roy's has had issues too.

Jeff, I will have to try the LifeLock you mentioned. It looks like a pretty good deal.

When it happened to us last year the worse part of the whole ordeal was the damage control we had that had to be done to try and prevent identity theft.

It was a bummer having the damaged vehicle and loosing the use of it for weeks. And tough loosing items that could not be replaced like family heirlooms that were out of sight (in a box to be shipped to relatives at the next stop), but the rest of the material items lost were just stuff.

I had the same thing happen to me years ago. I actually caught three kids in the act of breaking into my car with their fourth buddy sitting in an idle car for their get-away. I started yelling and running after them. They freaked out, jumped into their car and took off. I ran after them trying to get the license plate.

About 3 minutes later, I realized I was an idiot to chase after three teenagers in an empty parking garage. I too was a teenager at the time and was about 170 lbs soaking wet. I would have taken a beating for sure. I realized then that material items can come and go. I'll never make that mistake again.

I feel your pain. It's a horrible violation of privacy and the aftermath (dealing with insurance, credit card companies and so on) is the gift that keeps on giving. My only hope is that people like that experience the same thing.

I'm glad your family is fine.
