here is the guitar in question. i found the guy when i read this thread. i asked if if he would sell it and he did . got it for 800 shipped. never thought twice about the mismatched headstock. but was pondering the idea of changing the neck. so i called musicman tech support and they said they dont sell neck but if this one was damaged the would replace it but i had to pay for a new one and send the old one back. but then again they would only give me and exact copy so it would be a red headstock. so i will leave it be. the neck is amazing !!!!!!!

I'd sand the red off, and clear coat it natural, or have a pro painter do it. It wouldn't have to say Ernie Ball Music Man and Albert Lee on the headstock for me to be happy. Everyone in the world that knows anything about MM geetars would know its an Albert Lee in every sense. I'd look at this as a great opportunity to personalize a great guitar. Honestly, for me the red would have to go. YMMV

If I got this for $800, I would be thrilled. Here are my 3 thoughts of what I would do.

1. Leave it as is. it's a really nice looking AL except for the red head

2. Get the headstock refinished to au Natural. I would not care about the resale value at all

3. A little of my artistic side would come out and add a green p/g, pink knobs, purple pups

$800!!

Who the heck cares about resale value for $800?

Get it how you like it and play the **** out of it.

Or sell it to me for $850!
