I'm with Tim 100%! Do whatever makes you happy. I'm a big advocate of making the guitar be what you want it to be - not what others want it to be. I like Floyds. I find them a pain at times - but when set up right - I really really like them. The Axis has one and Satch and Vai use them so they can't be simply junk, right? Do what you want and forget everyone else.

Then again, do you really want to take the advice of a guy who did this to a JP?:

gerry_d: you asked would I do it, the answer is: refinished PROBABLY NOT, refretted YES, and a Floyd installed NO WAY. But that's me. I agree Tim, do what feels best for you.

Norrin: that's not what I would do, but it looks like a pretty cool paint job. Some guys don't mind having someone sign their guitar, I could NEVER allow that. Each to his own, right?

For an experienced luthier, adding the floyd to the Luke is no problem. I was about to go that route right before I found my Luke 1. If you are really serious I know a couple guys.

I agree that you should buy it and restore it to standard specs. But I also love Floyd's. You should just look for an original Luke with a Floyd. How a Floyd is "obsolete" is beyond me.

Well guys I didn't buy the guitar in the end, the owner decided not to sell when it came to it, he really loves that ol beat up Luke... but I'd still like to own a Floyd equiped Luke at some point... but while we're on this who would be the best luthier in the UK for a refret...??
