An SR5 is an SR5, how would it not be worth that much?

Every single MM bass I've bought has been used, from the US, older than that, with £100 shipping and £100 tax and it's STILL a steal.

YES

Well I got her home tonight. Give me a few days playing her, and I promise a few pics will follow. One question, were the necks finished differently in 2001? This neck as a more satin finish. Not bad, just different. Maybe the owner used some wax on her?

There's (new) one like that at a local store and it haunts me every time I see it. The maple is a little dirty and it needs a setup, but at around $1400, I was thinking it was pretty decent (and light weight too!). $850 is good.

I still kick myself for not picking up a like new light black and maple SR5 for $1000.

Congrats, Yes I think they did use something different on the necks back then. The Neck on my 96 SR5 is also looks waxed.

Well I had about 20 minutes to spend with my new SR5, and I need to say something. I thought I was strictly an HH guy, but I have to tell you this single H is really opening my eyes/ears. It might have something to do with my new rig as well, but I really love the 3 distinctive tones I get from the switch. Plus I remember reading that hand placement on these single H's make a HUGE difference. WOW! it sure does. I'm also loving the satin feel of the wax/oil neck. I might have to do this to my 25th.

I had the same reaction John. I thought I wanted/needed a dual pickup model when I joined my current band (all covers), but not only is the one pickup on my SR5 enough, I've had the switch in single coil mode for the last 3 months!

A good sound is a good sound, and that's enough for all the situations I've been in lately. Sure, I might make some minor changes in hand position to either make the sound bigger or focused, but for my situation, at least, the bells and whistles are unnecessary. They would probably be more useful for recording than the "everybody's drunk and dancing" reality of my current band.

Enjoy the new bass!
