hey guys
I have a question Hypothetically speaking:) ?
Q. Would you take a Guitar endorsement with a company you maybe didn't really like the feel or playability or Brand of Guitar?
OR
Q. would you just keep purchasing/playing EBMM guitars because they are the best guitars suited to your needs and you are 100% happy with them?

would love to see a discussion on this topic!!!
peace

Would you marry a girl that didn't stoke your fire?
Would you try a suit on without trying it on first?
Need i say more?

If it's not what you want why are you going after it?

hypothetically, if there was a guy called, oh lets say douglas wellingtons. douglas has 3 or 4 ernie ball models that he loves and is happy with. as long as he takes care of them and services them and wahtnot he can easily make do with these 3 or 4 on the road without acquiring free guitars, that perhaps, aren't as fine to his tastes. at the end of the day, this guitar company can't offer that much to douglas that he doesnt already have.

EBMM is a company I'm proud to support with my custom and I enthusiastically recommend them to other musicians. Apart from the outstanding quality of the products and customer service, I love that innovation is important, I love the social conscience and the charitable works. I mean, what's not to love? I use their products with pride.

So, no, to sign a contract with somebody else who I don't already endorse in my own head, just wouldn't sit right with me. And I don't need a contract to endorse EBMM because I already do.

That's a very, very good question.

I had an opportunity to become an endorsee for a guitar company recently, I would receive 1 free piece a year to begin with. They are hand made so that is quite a significant cost to the company!

The problem was, I didn't really like the guitar as much as my Luke, it was really nice though... I temporarily agreed to the deal as it would have been very cool to have been able to say 'I'm a ****** endorsee!' but after a bit of thought I decided that I would want to play my Luke all of the time so I pulled the plug on it and I'm happy, not long afterwards I purchased a Silhouette special as a little treat, it's even more awesome than my Luke! (I think... I keep changing my mind)

Stick with what you know you like.

Agreed with the above. I say play what ur happy with. Don't lock urself into something that ur going to regret & b unhappy about, eventually it'll feel more like a job u know and show in the music. If you love ur balls, and can afford to buy them without going nuts then stick it out. Maybe u'll get a eb endorsement at some point but till that day u have the last word. So ultimately do what's right for you.

Somehow I think your question might be less hypothetical than you want to make us believe ;)

So, If we were to ignore the fact that it is preposterous to even assume that any company in it's right mind is going to consider my poor- excuses-for-a-guitar-player-self as endorsee, my answer would be:

it would depend on what the exact conditions of the endorsement were. If it would require me to exclusively play the endorsed brand, I would not do it. period. If it were something like "yeah, do some demo's, a few vids, play a couple of songs per gig with the guitar" AND it would make me some money then, yeah sure, I'll consider (I'd have to like the brand/guitar though. I will not endorse anything that I don't at least like a little)

As a working musician (I'm not, talking generally here) making music is just as important as making cash I think. I mean doing the thing you love is cool, but it's important to be able to make a living as well...

No because it would be detrimental to my guitar playing, I would not feel comfortable and 100% confident whilst playing live - I need all the help I can get!!

OR

Yes because it suits my requirements and I feel confident whist playing live

Well, I'll have to say that "it depends" on your situation. Let's say that you're out of work with bills piling up and the car about to be repo'd. In that case, I'd have to say yes. But to add to the situation, it depends what the strings are that come with the endorsement. There are plenty of stars out there (outside of Musicman) who even have signature guitars but play something else on stage. Some very high profile guitarists have custom guitars from small luthiers with their endorsed company name put on the headstock.

So the hard truth is that in real life, some endorsed guitars are not played by their signed artists.

I have absolutely no morality.
If Daisy Rock wants to endorse me, no problem, I will become transsexual (or Australian, that's more or less the same).
.............
just kidding. In fact it depends on the brand. I have some respect for some brands, for instance Vigier (they are French and the factory is located at 15 km of my house). But the guitar has to suit me. A few years ago, I tried several Vigier and the guitars are perfect but I cannot play them : they have such a low action that I cannot bend strings.

Of course if EBMM wants to endorse me ... I will also become transsexual if it is what BP wants !

Slightly different perspective:

I wouldn't take any guitar endorsement. Reason being is that to me, guitars evoke certain playing elements to me, and certain sounds. A lot of times I like my lukes, or my reflex...but sometimes I need a Strat or a Les Paul to get what I'm wanting. For example, EBMM makes amazingly easy to play, really nice sounding guitars...but sometimes if I'm playing a blues number, for instance, I want a really dog guitar that I have to fight to get notes out of.

I have the same feeling about amps. Some times I love my Two Rock, but other times I need my MI audio Revelation to get the sound I'm after

Some stuff I'd love to get endorsed (Strings *wink wink*, cables etc..I'm not sure where I stand on pedals)....but guitars, I believe, have too much personality and affect my playing style too much (probably because I'm an awful player) for me to stay with one brand...even one so amazing as EBMM

For some reason...I had that opportunity in my last band. Not sure why as I am a hack...maybe it was the cool costume..haha...but I turned them down. This particular one makes it's money off of a dead musician's name and to me has an inferior product, no respect, and seems a bit on the shady side. I know two local guys "endoresed" by them and they are not exactly happy about it.

Q. would you just keep purchasing/playing EBMM guitars because they are the best guitars suited to your needs and you are 100% happy with them?

Yep, I know how each one is and I know what I will get everytime I order one. Simply, the best tool for me to use and I am 100% happy with EBMM. No need for me to look elsewhere.

As long as you don't have to play said 'company that wants to endorse you with their less than EB quality guitars', I say sign the deal and sell em' on ebay and continue to play EBs whilst giving BP a ring after your album drops! :D
