So glad you posted this as to just get a glimpse of the trailer made my day. I have been following as much on Jason since he was diagnosed with ALS, and it is truly remarkable that most people last 3 to 5 years if lucky and he is still with us 20 years later.
For those guys who do not know who Jason Becker is he was a wiz prodigy and pro by 16 was in Cacophony with him and Marty Friedman playing some of the wickedest shred guitar. The guy had the sky as his limit as just before he got sick he got the job as David Lee Roths guitarist. For all you shredders or just players in general checkout some of his stuff as he is a very important player who had an amazing gift and had a very unique arpeggio style that used a lot of 5 and 6 string sweeps and if you watched that trailer I was glad they threw in the yo-yo bit where he would play a yo-yo with his right hand while doing insane legato on the guitar.
I have to look into that site as I wanted to make a contibution but it just seems odd that 20K was not raised for the documentary, but if it is on the level I will contribute. I can not even begin to imagine what this poor guy has endured, I know someone said well at least he is alive but imagine the only thing you can do is blink your eyes. But as a human being he is to be applauded for still creating music with a system he and his father devised with a computer. I cant wait too see this film.
Words are useless here...
jason becker and paul gilbert were the first 2 guitar players I've listened back in 94-95 and made me wanna shred
let's give a help (and donate) so that the music of this fabulous man and musician can be forever remembered as it deserves
In 1989, I bought a compilation from Shrapnel Records called Guitar Masters. On it, there is Altitudes from Jason Becker. This song really impressed me. I bought his record (Perpetual Burn) and it was really crazy to have such guitar playing for such a young guy !
His life is really inspiring. This guy is a real musician because he has his music in his head and not only on the neck of his guitar.
Amazing story. Spare a thought for Mike Pocaro from Toto who was diagnosed with the same condition a couple of years ago. Terrible disease, no parent should have to watch their kids like that.
Thanks for posting this...I have seen quite a few short documentaries on him as he is one of my absolute heroes, but I am very excited a full length movie will be coming out, it's a story everyone needs to hear. Like Rhodes and Hendrix there is no telling where this guy would have gone, but he is given inspiration to people all around the world, and still he is composing full out symphonies for ballet in the north bay area, as well as a whole bunch of other stuff, it's remarkable
donate, any small amount you can afford, and I know everyone here can , if wants it, we are on forum of a manufacturer with pretty expensive guitars
let his story be heard! that's how we can pay a small tribute to the fabulous man and musician Becker
<< In the back of the 'Perspective' CD case, Jason states "I have Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. It has crippled my body and speech, but not my mind." >>
