Hold it right there! History lesson required as Sweden never owned Norway :)

Union with Sweden 1814 - 1905.
Norway had come in union with Sweden involuntarily as a consequence of the Napoleon wars. "Denmark-Norway" had taken sides with napoleaon and lost, and the greater powers (Great Britain, Russia, Austria, Preussen) promised to transfer Norway over to Sweden, as a compensation for the loss of Finland in 1809.

Sweden went to war with Norway to gain control over it, but the Norwegians resisted to the invasion, and though they were overpowered, they managed to negociate a new deal. This deal was formal equal terms as its own country, with their own constitution, but in a union with Sweden. This was in 1814 and Norway chose Carl XIII of sweden as their new norwegian king.

The fight for a norwegian consulate establishment led in 1895 to swedish threats of war, and Norway backed down. The endless politics went on though, and eventually this led to the dissolve of the union in 1905.

Regards,
Raimond

Sorry. You got it all wrong, baby. Sweden put Norway in the mouth, chewed, didn´t like the tast and spit Norway out again. And we´ve had a bad taste in our mouth ever since....

I´m just messing with your brain, my friend. I know the history. Just having fun. ;) Norway is indeed fantastic. Great country and great folks. Been pretty much all over. Love it. Honestly. Have to love the country that gave Anita Hegerland to the world!! :)
