Hi all,

It is with a heavy heart that I start this thread...

I'm having bonding issues with my new Y2D. I love the guitar. It is beautiful, plays and feels great and sound cool too. When I got it, I was shopping for an original Morse model. My wife sent me an email with an ebay auction for the Y2D. She said, "I like this one". She bought it for me for my b-day. I was very happy to get it; but the "honeymoon" period is over. I am still wondering if I should have stuck to my guns and got an original Morse model.

I have heard from a few of you saying basically that the extra pickup "ain't all that". Well, I really miss the Strat 2/4 position quack. I know that both Morse models were designed and built for Steve, himself and not for me and the tone I am trying to achieve. That said, as I have watched several vids of Steve and his original as well as listened to very knowledgeable people here and there, I have heard the quack Steve gets with his original model. I can't get it with the Y2D. I come close using the single coil by itself; but that's it...

I also like the cool switching on the original Morse model. The 5-way on the Y2D is easy; but I honestly like all the switching. It's just really fun to me.

Now, all that said, I am in a dilemma as to my options. Let's say I decide to unload it and get an original Morse model. I really can't send it back to the seller. He's an ebay store dealer from Canada and, to my knowledge, doesn't take these things back.

Would you guys mind giving me some thoughts here? Am I off-base? Any other options?

This is a great group here and I appreciate being part of as well as the breadth of knowledge and understanding here.

Thanks,

its not the guitar, it tha amp really from what think, i have a couple of setting that are pretty close to steve morses sound but you just have to fool around with the amp settings.....anyways im getting my new smy2d in around one month, but pretty much the pickup thats not on the y2d model but on the original i never use....

anyways stick with it and buy the original.......
if i were you i would not let the y2d go, save up for original, or get a players card from "guitar center" or "musicians friend" only like $41.00 A month.....
thats what i did to get a nother original and the y2d..

Thats a beautiful Y2D. I'm sure you will have no problem finding a buyer :) There is no point in keeping a guitar that doesn't "do" it for you. Especially when you know what you want already... That being said Steve Morse's "sound" and any other guitarist for that matter sound comes from more than a guitar and a amp. They have their own feel. How the pick the notes, how hard the fret each note ect. Good luck in whatever you do.:)

What's your wife going to say?

Well, you know how that sort of thing goes...

She'll say, "If you don't like it, trade it". But, you know they really don't mean it and it ends up hurting their feelings...

So, at this point, I am going to try to modify the wiring and install a pus h/pull 250k pot to split the humbuckers. It's a proof-of-concept thing. If I like it, I'll install another to independently split the humbuckers. If I don't, then I'll wire it back to its original form. Then I'll speak to my better half and just be open and honest...

BTW, I just got off the phone with Tommy and he's the one who talked me into trying the wiring mod before offering it up for sale or trade.

BUtch you posted a hundred (not really) very detailed threads before you pulled the trigger. Please do not midify your guitar unbles you arewilling to devalue it by at least 50%...go try a original one befroe you do anything..YTou could be one of three people in the world that enjoy the switching of the original...the switching made that guitar very hard to sell

Another take.

If you miss the 2 and 4 position, but love the y2d for everything else...and are able to afford it---maybe pick up a used Albert Lee. It has more quack than a constipated duck.

Although I also love the idea of good 'ol tommy having a flame y2d he can rock. So maybe a trade is what works out best for everyone.

I will sleep on it before I do anything to my Y2D...

That said, the guitar itself was sold as "used" so I get no warranty anyway....

Just a few thoughts:

difficult...

Well, I really miss the Strat 2/4 position quack.

I´m not sure if you get that with an original. I think it has some sounds similar to Strat but not comparable. It´s an own sound.

I also like the cool switching on the original Morse model. The 5-way on the Y2D is easy; but I honestly like all the switching. It's just really fun to me.

I like the switching too.

let me see a pic. i (possibly) would be interested in trading one of my 5 standard models for it.

great offer ! This may solve your problem (to get an original, I´m not sure about the quack-thing)

What's your wife going to say?
Don´t mix up women and guitars :D Ok I´m a bit envious

BUtch you posted a hundred (not really) very detailed threads before you pulled the trigger. Please do not midify your guitar unbles you arewilling to devalue it by at least 50%...go try a original one befroe you do anything..

What do you expect to get from the mod? The sound from the slanted pickup? Any other thing woud require a mod on the original too.

YTou could be one of three people in the world that enjoy the switching of the original...the switching made that guitar very hard to sell
funny, interesting

Honestly, I don´t know what to do. Keeping both would be the best. If not affordable, I would tend to go for the original instead of modding. But the wife-issue is another thing...:confused:

if moding it has to do with chopping up a block in the middle dont do it! try and sell it if you think you really want the original steve morse guitar, no use modding if and finding no difference, you know what i mean? well good luck but i think if you really explain it to your wife well i think it will go ok.... :D

good luck, dont think about cutting something out of it... lol
