Y2D Bonding Problems....

Butch, if you're looking for neck & middle quack I'm not sure the original Morse is going to help you. You might want to look at a Silhouette. Seriously, you can get sort of the way there but if that's your sound the Morses aren't the best guitar for it.

That said, you can get closer with the original Morse. Go to a store and try one. Unless you get one that's new the neck profile is going to be different- the older ones have a chunkier profile (it's also excellent, just not as thin as the new profile).

If you decide to swap, Tommy is your guy. You know you'll be getting a guitar in great shape that's set up like a dream.

I got to sit and play both the standard and 2 Y2d's for a couple of hours through a Fuchs OD50 and while all where awesome guitars---I prefered the standard over the Y2d's(only slightly though). It seemed lighter and a bit more "resonant and resonsive"--subjective terms, I know. However-----as BP points out -----I MUCH prefer the switching of the Y2D--the standard is just a bit confusing for my taste----easily fixed though!!!!!!! Why not have both flavors??? Standard Morses aren't really that expensive........

Afterthought: selling wife and girlfriend purchased guitars is BAD MOJO!!!

I agree with everyone the I'm never gonna get a Strat quack out of either an original Morse or a Y2D. Steve himself, didn't play that...

Tommy and I had a very nice phone conversation earlier today. Actually, we won't be doing any trading. The two he was thinking about trading me were black. I want a Morse Blue Burst.

Here's another thing. My wife and I were at Wal-Mart tonight getting groceries and a new air filter for the lawn mower. I'm trying to find the right air filter and she comes up to me with this purplish shirt. I have a gig this weekend and she says, "I found this really cool shirt that would go with your guitar". I'm thinking to myself - "This just gets better and better".....

Okay, how about this? I like the idea of getting a Musicians Friend Card (or see if another MM dealer has any financing...or if you have another credit card, or whatever...) Anyway, the point is to try both of them side by side on a gig before you sell the Y2D and regret it. You can always sell the one you don't want later...You may lose a couple hundred bucks, but at least you'll know!

I also advise buying an original Morse with a return policy, play it for a few days, and keep it if it rules or return it if you don't like it. Just be aware of the "honeymoon period" again.

I'd definitely try and keep it at least for sentimental reasons; it seems like you and your wife have a good relationship and down the road you might wish you hadn't sold it for that reason. You don't wanna make her gunshy about buying guitars either

I have two Y2Ds but find that the single coil options on it are enough for me.

I traded in a Flying V my girlfriend bought me for one of my Y2Ds and I do still feel bad about it sometimes but I treat it like she bought me part of my Y2D instead and that cheers me up.

I always find that matching headstocks aid bonding. Perhaps that's the problem...

Yes, they are the stock single coil options. I would agree that the Y2D doesn't give you the 2 or 4 positions that you'd get on a Str*t but as I play mostly rock I don't need a lot of single coil. If I did I'd get an AL or a Str*t.

The matching headstock thing is a personal preference. I think it completes the look and will pay the upcharge for it if needed. However plenty of others don't think it matters - there was a thread on here about it recently. I do know that a matching headstock won't affect the tone.

I guess you should ask yourself, how important is that particular nuance that you find the Y2D is lacking? If the answer is "Big time, I couldn't play a gig without it" then I would try to work a trade or get another guitar. If the answer is "meh, I don't know, would be nice though" I would keep the Y2D and find things to love about what you can do with it.

I didn't think EBMM made any Blue Dawn Morses. That one on your site looks really cool.

Keep the guitar - save up, find a nice used original Morse in a year (or whatever is a reasonable timeframe for you to save up for such a purchase), and have the best of both worlds!
