hi forumites,

does anybody of you have changed the bridge PU of the Y2D with an other Dimarzio just like the Crunch Lab or something else?

don´t get me wrong, i love the Y2Ds, but i would prefer a bit more low-end and a bit less mids to get a more "metal" sounding guitar.
with my original band the sound with the JPs fits much better as with the Y2Ds, so i thought maybe a PU change to the Crunch Lab would solve my little sound-problem.

any thoughts on this?

thanks for your help.

Hey Joe! I also love the original pickups, but I ended up changing them to what I prefer tone wise. The neck pickup I love, but changed that as well. When I get "blackie" I will keep that one stock. Anyway, for your sound, I think you would like the tone zone a lot. Some people say it is too mushy, but I thought it was quite articulate. Very fat with a lot of low end and great for rhythm as well as leads. Vinnie Moore used to use that back in the day. But you will most likely have to change the 250k pot values to 500k otherwise the tone zone or even the crunch lab may sound too muddy.

I persolly changed the pickups to Suhr DSH+ in the bridge and DSV in te neck. Great all around pickups. The DSH+ is really one of my favorite bridge pickups I've ever tried.

You may want to speak with Gio (gforce013)...he swapped a 500k into his y2d and now he finds it shrilly and harsh at higher volumes. We were just discussing it yesterday.

I felt when I changed the pot it sounded good at low volumes had a little more output and brighter but when I used it live at higher volumes I just thought that it lost something that it had before.
Basically to me the warmth was gone and it didnt cut through as well as it did before so in goi g to switch back and try that and if not going to switch the pickups. I love the playability of this guitar and want to find the best tone possible.
