I really like tobacco burst. I don't like those huge pick guards, however. It doesn't really help that its clear. Why can't they offer the guitar without a pick guard, and rear mount the pickups? I have always preferred that look, but that's just my preference.

Here's a pic someone took at NAMM. I'm not responsible for the blurry shot! :)
This is the only pic I've seen of the tobacco burst. It's nice but I'd guess they will make less of these compared to the other finishes since they are more original.

The answer is a simple one Dave......the axe is built to Steve Morse's specs....not ours. All signature axes come out the factory according to the artist's specs. Simple as that. So, we can choose a few options, but they will still leave the way the artist has his done.

The only reason the pickguard is there on the Y2D is because of STEVE's playing style. He said that he is used to the pick guard and it also raises the part where he rests his pinky of the picking hand. If the pick guard wasnt there than it would alter his regular position that he has been used to and playing for 20 years! :D

Thanks for the replies. Yeah, it makes sense that the pickguard is there, per Steve's specs. I was just wondering aloud why Music Man doesn't offer their guitars without pickguards. No offense, but I think their pickguards are a bit large and garish. The clear pick guard helps a lot, but I'd prefer another shape, or no pick guard at all. Oh well...that's just me. They are great guitars regardless of these pick guards.

ALL EBMMs have a smallness to them.
Especially the Morse models, because they have a narrower neck.
I you compare a MM next to the average guitar, there's a least 6 inches difference in length.
It's called good engineering! less material, more profit! The 4+2 headstock alone is probably 2 inches shorter than the average axe! :)
I love Um!

that's on of the things that I loved on the SUB1 I played the other day. So small and comfy... I couldn't even imagine how it would be to play a Morse... or like Morse :D
