I honestly couldn't taste a difference.

They both just make me smile. Can't go wrong either way.

I own 4 of each model they sound close but I find the originals are quite a bit heavier!!They really kick ass I wasn't sure that I'd like it soundwise but it would be my go to guitar if i can have only one!(shutter)The pickup configuration on originals is a but weird but sorta' nice once you get it understood!VERY versatile!
you won't be sorry!!

So, can this be said of all the signature guitars? Is the JP one can pick up at the Guitar Center the same instrument that he uses on tour with Dream Theater? I was discussing guitars with a musician friend and he laughed at me when I told him that.

Yep. The guitars are setup to the artists' specs when they go out the door whether they are going to the artist or to Guitar Center.

Steve demonstrated that at a clinic I attended one time. He grabbed one off the wall gave it the once over, made a *minor* pickup height adjustment and proceeded to tear it up. He mentioned that the guitars that are shipped are identical to what he gets.

I haven't tried the original but the Y2D is the best tonally I've ever played. I'm a big fan of HB-SC-SC setups but the out of phase on these guitars have a brilliant country twang whereas the bridge pup has a more focused tone than my EVH. The main thing I look for in a guitar these days is versatility and different range of sounds. This one has it and coupled with the best necks, I'll be playing this one for the rest of my days.

OT: Crate VC 30

Hi Banjoplayer...

I'll give it a try... and pay attention to my settings to get the mud out... I heard good things about that Crate VC30... alot og bang for the buck as I'm told... What's your thought on it... Is it a good match to the Y2D?

The VC 30 is a really great amp. Great clean sound, superb crunch and solid gain - top versatility - not only vintage sounds as the name suggests. compared to my other amp (Marshall DSL 401): the DSL is a bitch, but the Crate has a very strong character, it´s unique. It sounds very warm and has a rich tone. It´s only lacking the speaker output for another cabinet. And you get the VC´s for a very good price on ebay.
in my opinion: clearly the better amp of both for the less money - no problem playing it with the morse!

Wow... I love the way the Morse looks, especially the Y2D. I am crazy about the deep purple sunset, although one of my buddies says the color looks like a drink at a gay bar. :D

In theory, yes. But for some reason, people feel compelled to take an allen wrench to a brand-new guitar as soon as it comes out of the box. :D

LOL, as I said, I think it looks great, but my buddy also thinks that anything more modern than a Telecaster is hopeless. ;)

I just thought his description was really funny, as it does remind you of an 80'es drink.

My friend didn't mean that the "standard" guitars aren't setup the same musicians do, but rather that they have special woods, pickups and other things that are not available on the models you find at the guitar stores. I told him that I was pretty sure they are the same guitars, but he was pretty insistant that the artists have special instruments above what the average Joe could get at Guitar Center. I couldn't convince him that it was not the case.

Anyone with the both Y2d's ie. with and without the locking tremolo? I have one with the tremolo and I noticed that the metal nut is bringing alot of metal sound to the 2 small strings in the open position... All is fine, no complaint... but not the warmest sound... Is this better with the standard bridge and nut?? Anyone noticed that?

I like the extra ring I get out of the non tremed models. I also like the fact they're a lot lighter. Having said that the locking trem model served me well for years and I do miss it from time to time.

Trem vs non-trem: the Morse is made to be played non-trem, I trully believe that :).

I've had a Morse and a silo with the floyd - great guitars, great for all the trem craziness. Sold both, because they could not compare with my standard Morse tonewise (and changing the strings and setting up is also much easier, obviously)

So if You don't use the trem too much - go the standard. The stop-tale bridge in the Morse (and the Y2d) is rather unique in how it feels - tighter and stiffer than, say, a standard string-through-body vintage bridge on a silo. Gives You TONE and a lot of control that way.

As for the standard Morse vs. the Y2d: I#ve tried the y2d extensively, to try out if it could be a great companion to the standard Morse. To me, the y2d is great and looks killer - but the standard Morse has way more to offer.
