Starting from the thread about the new Petrucci Prototypes, I made some thoughts about the different Y2D-prototypes I have seen so far. To have a better overview, I made a diagram with all types I saw live/found by surfing through the web.

No 1. I found this one in the web. This may be a very early prototype, because it is not seen anymore. Also it is common, that Sterling added a binding, so I think this model was before this.

No. 2 & 3 are the one, Steve plays live. I think No. 3 is not really a prototype. The only thing, which is different to a regular model is the colour of the pickup-switch.

No. 4 is the one from the announcement of the Y2D. I have never seen Steve playing on. I´ve got only this picture.

No. 5 is a bit tricky. Please watch the first video on www.ernieball.com/smy2d/main.html At the end of this little film, the guy in the background handles a guitar, which MAY be black (I´m not sure!). It has cream-coloured Pickups which look like a Y2D. Maybe there is a black prototype. Please take a look and tell me what you think.

Does anyone know other prototypes, has a picture of it?
Can we see production pictures (like Petrucci-prototype)? That would be really sensational. Or every information about the work on the Y2D together with Steve would be interesting.

Thank you everyone for your interest and your participation on this thread

interesting stuff, thanks!!!! i think in no5, it is a black guitar, doesnt Morse play it on the videos, with a floyd, just for a little bit? i havent watched them for a while so i may be wrong.

love them cream pups!!!!!

The one he plays with the Floyd Rose is silver with black PUPs and it is a old model with 4 PUPs. I have not seen a black Y2D except in this video in the background.

Hi Colin,
thanks for your post.

Nice pic. I´ve seen it somewhere before, maybe on stevemorse.com ?!?

I bet, this is an old model (blueburst with white pickguard and white PUPs). I think this ´cause behind Steve´s pinkie the 4th pickup can be seen and it has the 3-way-toggle, which belongs to the 4th pickup. Also it has the 2-way-toggle and on the head the design seems to be pretty much like the old model (which of course could also be a prototype).

But hey, it looks great and it´s nice to see Steve play other models.

that was the first proto I believe

really? Do you know more about it? Does it have any features, the old doesn´t have?

I might be wrong, but it looks like it has a nice top, with a very nice grain of the wood. Maybe it is already a maple top.

ok , I understand. That´s why you, tommy, know, that the back is also quilted. Now I got it ;)

Is this quilted on the pic with Scoots also a early prototype, like the one with the white pickguard? Sorry, that I´m annoying you with that details, but I find it very interesting.

I would love to see some of the pics like can be seen from Petrucci here http://www.ernieball.com/mmonline/artists/jp_proto.html I know the morse Y2D videos. But I´d like more more more.:D
