Yeah, I picked up my second Bongo....here's how.

A few days ago my Fiance gave me an early Christmas gift....she purchased a candy apple red bass...problem...it was a Mexi-made F----r. For one, it was waaaay too much for her to spend on a gift, especially since she's bought other gifts as well. We took it back, and she mentioned that I should buy another one like the "pretty orange one you just got that looks like a toilet seat." So, I ended up selling a bass, and she pitched in the $150 difference so I can purchase Bongo #2.

I still have my Stingray HH...that is a great bass, but after bringing the Desert Gold Bongo to a couple of practices, the band absolutely loves the sound, AND the appearance as well.

Congratulations! Beautiful pair, I love BOTH colors. I recently bought a second Bongo. I love having two of them especially since one is a 5 HH and the other is a 5 single H. And just like yours the colors are vastly different.

Congrats!

I'm glad that many of You guys can afford yourself multi bass ownership :D but I just don't get it why two identical models (except the color)? :confused:

Only of collecting it?

Please, no hard feelings, just curious? :eek:

For example, it's good to have a few Bongos, but with different pickup configuration, right?

I have a Bongo 5HH fretted and I want a 5 fretless of some kind. I got excited and bought a 25th BFR RW 4HH and now I'm regretting that and wishing I had a 25th 5-string fretted and fretless. This will require lots of begging and swapping. OR I could just trade my 25th for a fretless Bongo; the whole point being to have a fretted and fretless of the same kind. Which would make the best fretted and fretless pair? Stingray, Sterling, Bongo or 25th? Maybe this should be a poll question?

The same configuration plus a different colour also does not make a lot of sense to me either, other than you like to collect basses. Nothing wrong with that either, but that's not my motivation.

I want a second for a different tone. A bongo 4HH rosewood fretboard with flats is going to sound completely different than a Sterling H maple fretboard with rounds.

Or to have an equal backup. I try to have at least some difference in woods when I have the same instrument with the same electronics. But then again, no two pieces of wood are identical anyway. And those of my two SR4 HH's, that are identical except for colour (one of those "bought one while one was on order mishaps"), still have each their own distinctive character. Which turns out to be a nice excuse for collecting basses.... :D

<evil laugh>

I really did just chuckle when I read both of your replies. You said it would happen didn't you. The thing is that my band immediately took notice of the Desert Gold one....the appearance first. Then after I plugged it in, they were amazed that it could play some blues, rock, and even get a thumpy-dub sound when playing "Message in the Bottle." All with the amp EQ set flat, and making all the changes on the bass itself.
