Well, folks, I made the mistake of going to GC today for their "the list" sale, and while there wasn't much of interest on the list, I managed to talk them WAY down to rescue a 5HS Bongo in Carbon Blue that had been there for about 18 month, and was getting a bit of "road rash" A couple of decent size dings, and the volume pot is broken (no big deal - I'm gonna order the replacement tomorrow) but I got such a deal, that it will all be worth it, and this makes my Bongo stable now three . . . . .

I love the color, although the white ice PG that GC seems to order on everything doesn't do a lot for me, so here is the challenge: Anybody have Carbon Blue to know what works nicely on it? I am thinking Abalone, but the samples online are too small to really get a feel for it . . . .

Thoughts?

Abalone. Really. Do it. Now.

Thanks Jon - I had a hunch that would be good, and considering that you look at these all day long, you ought to know . . . .

See Andrew's CB SR5HH thread if you don't believe those two. It's a fantastic combination.

Ben -

Thanks for the pointer - I had forgotten that thread. That definitely kills! Tomorrow's order will be a vol pot and a PG! I was worried that the PG might be a bit on the dark side, but not all all . . . . . now, all I gotta do is go take a cold shower and quit drooling . . . .

I went to the GC sale today too.. early even.. with that pass thing.

My bass player went with me, and he made me play a Bongo 4HH, Sterling H, and 3-band SR4 H for him. (He's lefty so there was virtually nothing there for him.)

I have to say that I was able to quickly dial in awesome tones with each model! They all sounded great. I even ran the harmonics on the Bongo like BP did in his GC vids! As a guitarist, the Sterling neck was the most comfortable for my hands, but they all played well.

The asst mgr said that this particular blue Sterling was the favorite of all the employees in the store, and I can see why. It looked, felt, played, and sounded great.

I also took a few minutes to admire the various curves of the Bongo which were recently espoused on this forum.

To the folks in SLO, great stuff!

(I left GC empty-handed though. I didn't even use my $10 off coupon  )

Yeah. I was there at GC too. Too late to use the pass thing. I did the harmonic thing too. heh-heh... Wanted the Bongo 5HH in Candy Red with white pearloid PG or the Bongo 4HH in Sapphire Black with Moonstone. Someday. So many of the basses were priced without OHSC. What's up with that? I dug all the EBMM basses I tried. Nearly walked away with a Bongo.

I didn't buy anything EBMM related. Just walked away with a little midi-to-USB thing so I could use this keyboard I have as a little controller for the midi instruments on my Mac's Garage Band program.

Just got off the phone with Dan in customer service, and the parts and pickguard are on order (and the PG was in stock, too!) Much to my amazement and continued pleasure, they didn't charge for the pot or knob . . . . I figured that since this was "idiot damage" (not by me, but hardly a warranty issue) that I would be paying . . . but Noooooooo . . . . .

Once again, another wonderful experience with EBMM!!!!! BP, (I know you get tired of hearing this . . . . ) you guys really are "The" class act in the sea of mediocrity which is the musical gear industry . . . .

Well, got the parts and PG in today. The pot dropped in quite easily, and there was a suprise that I don't think anyone has mentioned, or at least that I have noticed. Kind of in the same vein as those that found the hum cancelling pickup buried in the (IIRC) Sterling HS, there is what appears to be a hum cancelling coil in the electronics cavity of the HS Bongo! That explains why the single coil on this baby is so quiet!

I got the abalone PG put on too, and it really does kill. Ironically, it FINALLY rained here in Texas today, so no chance to get any pics, but will post when I get them taken!

Dang, Timmy, that is nice.

BTW, if you're free tomorrow night (Friday night, 15 Sept), Bill from LA and Larry and whoever else is in town is coming over for drinks and bass fondling in the Scream Parlour.

You're invited. Along about 8 pm or so.

Thanks, Jack . . . one of these days, I need to get another "full family" picture . . . .

I am not sure what is on my calendar for tomorrow, but so far, it looks pretty clear, so I may well pop over . . . . I think I still have the directions to your place floating around here somewhere . . . . .
