I have been lurking around the forums here for a while, as I am getting ready to purchase an Axis this summer. I have almost bought an EVH/Axis a few times in the past, and this time I will not be stopped.
So, the questions I have are about the Axis and the Axis Super Sport. I have never played the Super Sport, there has not been a local dealer in town here for several years that carry the EBMM guitar line. So first question, what would be the expected difference tone wise between a Super Sport with a "vintage" style trem vs a fixed bridge; and also how do they compare to an Axis with a Floyd Rose?
The second question that I have is about the Super Sports with soap-bar style pickups. I have played a few of the EVH/Axis with the humbuckers, not sure if anybody can tell me of any recordings that I could find of an Axis SS with the soap-bars in. I am just a little curious to see if that could give me a different and unique sound. Also along those lines, what is the noise like for the soap-bars? Is the hum pretty low when you are playing out? Are the wires shielded so the other outside noise might be a little less than other single coils?
I know that all guitars sound a little bit different, and it is hard to judge a guitar tone when the amp, cables, settings and every other variable have a real effect on the tone, so I am hoping that some of you have played a couple of the guitars with different specs, so you can have an idea of what the variables were, rather than them being complete unknowns...
Sorry for rambling, and thanks in advance for all of your help.
