Good lord that dude can play. I have always been a fan of him, especially his earlier stuff, that was why I was surprised to hear him play a lot of his older stuff. A LOT of really old tunes. And he's a lot bigger in real life than I thought! He looks to be at least 6'2", maybe 6'3". It was pretty neat, because there was maybe 200 people there, tops.

I don't want to say too much to anyone here who will be seeing him on this leg of the tour, but it's definitely worth checking out. It sounds like he's got some pretty good new tunes out from the sound of some of the new songs last night. I got the new CD, but haven't listened to it yet. After the show, he left in a pretty big hurry. I don't really think he is a fan of his own fans.

What's the shocker?

He actually played a lot of instrumental stuff. A lot of classical guitar stuff, a lot of solo stuff with some keyboards in the background. I would say it was pretty much 50/50. I hate to say it, but I even think he's gotten a little faster. But a lot of old instrumental stuff that I'm sure a lot of you guys (and girls) would recognize.

Actually, he looks like he's lost a little weight believe it or not.

I think the platform shoes and the hair make him look a bit taller than expected.

I'm gonna see the guy in NYC at the BB King club. That should be interesting, and for once the freakin floor is open not with that seating crap. Infortunatly I cant say the same thing about LUKE this Saturday. I like the place, but HATE the people that manage the place. Anyway, Malmsteen is a freakin GIANT. That's the way he looked when my friend showed me a picture he took with him. My friend has a pretty damn big head, but Malmsteens compared to him was litteraly like a giant pumpkin with mass amounts of hair and glasses. I guess for him it's Halloween every day of the year.

jaxadam, just ignore the cheap shots, there's always going to be Yngwie bashing no matter where you go.
As for me I'm a huge fan. I missed him in TO in the mid 80's, I had a really bad flu. I'm glad you got to see one of the true and great original shredders, a true innovator in the world of guitar.

He is a big guy. I met him once, he's got big hands. He could have crushed mine if he wanted to. I don't understand how someone with such big beefy hands can play the way he does. God given talent and practice. He was also very nice when I walked up to him, signed a hat for me. From what people say about him I was expecting him to throw the thing back at me. Funny, when he walked into the room my wife was laughing saying look at that rock and roll wannabe cause of his long hair, open shirt and all the chains around his neck. When I looked, my eyes couldn't believe it, HOLY CRAP, I laughed back at her, that's no wannebe....

I'm not a Yngwie fan, but do wish I had some of that technique at times.

Perhaps if I bought some gold chains and stuff...

ha ha ha, that's pretty funny. I was watching the G3 video, and he's HUGE in that thing, but he has definitely slimmed down. What's that show she does, Fat Actress? Maybe they'll do a Fat Musician. They'll have plenty from the 80's to pick from. Supposedly Matt Leblanc is in the works with doing something similar.

I was backstage after a show when he was touring in support of the Rising Force release. The guy is tall, probably about 6'2". He was also very cool backstage, I got to talk to him a bit, and he gave me a guitar pick. I read his recent cover story in Guitar Player and it seems like he has, for lack of a better term, grown up a bit. He doesn't seem to take himself so seriously as much as he once did. He was even able to poke fun at himself in the interview.

I met him several years ago. Not a good meeting between me and him. Unfortunately for him, I could care less he is a "Rock Star", and he let his mouth get him in trouble, ....but, he has talent and that much I will give him. He can play. I am glad some peeps on here who met him did not get the Yngwie I got that day. Then again, I am sure he hopes the people he meets aren't the "Koogie" he met that day either. ;)

Yeah, he definitely "Unleased the Fury", that's for sure. I'd like to see him make some kind of a comeback. The main picture on his website, that's what he looks like now, he's probably lost 40 or 50 lbs.
